It is hard to imagine the skill, effort and dediction that went into this series of carvings. Made in the 7th and 8th centuries, when tools were limited, but obviously dedication and effort was unlimited. The carvings and in beatiful relief and skillfully and delicately done. The roack here is extremely hard pink granite. How they managed to do this... More

Look it over then explore above and around it at the other cave temples then return and marvel again at the images and find even more you missed the first time. Check out the limping cat standing on hind legs right in... More

An iconic symbol of South Indian history & culture - the entire area is basically an Open Air Museum - an archaeological gem - where you can spend many hours or even visit several times & one of the best parts is that it is FREE to explore

The architecture will make you stare with wonder. The carvings are really beautiful with, small pond kinda water body adds a special attraction to the beauty. But avoid visiting in summer or at noon

This beautiful , giant bas-relief carvings depict Arjuna doing penance to obtain the grace of god(some believe that it depicts Sage Bhagheratha worshipping shiva to bring holy Ganges to earth, not Arjuna!) . This place is right beside the main road leading to Mahabalipuram... More
