Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent experience for myself and my 18yo daughter. Valued the easy communication with Deb at Getaway trekking. We were guided by excellent experienced and safe partners in Nepal, and I think the business-relationship really helped in providing me confidence to travel. If there were any misunderstandings about inclusions these were handled well by Getaway.

I participated in Anzac Kokoda Trek departing 18th April 2023 - it was indeed a personal journey of self discovery as a 75 year old.
One can never think they know it all and given the wet conditions of the track the reliance on my Porter my Pole and my boots became the all important trio in my life!
Steeped in the history of the Kokoda diggers of WW2 the challenge for me was staying upright and getting from A- to B in a reasonable time thinking in wondernment at the toughness of the WW2 heroes. who fought along this trail.
Getaways organization and the Porter/Client ratios were excellent and the leadership of Adam and for a short time Wayne conveyed the confidence required in order to complete each days challenge. I wouldn't have missed any of this for all the tea in china -suffice to day that cup of tea at lunch and camp arrival each day was like nectar.
If you are someone who rises to a challenge with few options to opt out once started - then Kokoda is for you . .Its interesting to see on my return that in the mountainiq.com website they rate Kokoda number 7 in the' 11 Toughest treks on our planet'

The communication between Deb and I since 2019 was excellent and the The company runs ultra organised and there wasn’t a cliche at all with everything. I was very well looked after on the trek which included the airport pickup, food, hotel, guest houses, guides and internal flights.

Highly recommended.

Just returned for a long-awaited Everest Base Camp trip via Gokyo and Chola Pass.

What an amazing experience, This was an absolute trip of a lifetime, and it did not disappoint.

After waiting 3 long years due to covid, our trip finally happened. Watching so many vids and reading all the different experiences that others have had in the past on the same trip was nothing in comparison to what I actually experienced. The grand scale of the Himilayas was mind-blowing. Every day offered better sightseeing than the previous day, and I was always excited to wake up and see what the new day would bring. The food which I thought was going to be quite bland and limited was actually surprisingly good. The people in general wall very friendly. There was not one local who would not repond with a "Namaste" along with a smile. It actually puts a smile on my face now while writing this review.

I found the trip to quite difficult physically and mentally, but getting used to the cold conditions was the worst, but that's what life experiences are about, right?

Our trip was arranged by Getaway Trekking in Australia, and Deb, who brought this all together, was fantastic in all of her efforts. for 3 years, she was always updating us and liasing with us on progress for our trip. There were so many emails at different times to keep us up to date and motivated for what was to come. Even arranging monthly treks to get our fitness up and ready, so thank you, Deb, for all your hard work.

Mike from Getaway Trekking accompanied us on our trek also. Without Mike, im sure things would not have run as smooth as they did. Mike was very calm in any situation and just made everyone feel comfortable.

Getaway Trekking partnered with Ace The Himilaya in Nepal. These two very professional companies worked seamlessly together and took the guesswork out of everything.

I was so lucky to have suck an experienced team in Getaway Trekking along with Ace The Himilaya to complete this once in a lifetime experience for me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I have recently returned from the Aussie Camino from Portland Victoria to Penola in SA. A truly wonderful experience for me who had never trekked before and one that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys walking and the outdoors. We were also blessed to have 2 amazing people looking after us on our trek, Therese was a fantastic leader and provided us with a lot of support and encouragement along the way and Adam our coach driver did a wonderful job getting us to our accommodation and setting up our meal stops each day. A well-organized trek from start to finish !!

I did the "Australian Camino" earlier this month (September 2022). From the moment we were picked up at the St Mary MacKillop Centre in Melbourne until we completed the Camino, it was all a first class experience.

Our guides Heather and Grech were very experienced, knowledgeable on their subject and caring. The walks, accommodation, meals and general team spirit that developed, all combined to make our pilgrimage memorable.

I know this Camino is in its infancy. I believe we will look back when it's busy and famous and be able to say "hey I did that before most people had even heard about it"😊

Just got back from the Aussie Camino… what an amazing and wonderful experience, the leaders Deb and Therese were fantastic, so supportive and in tune with our individual needs. Willing to listen to what we all needed as well, whether it was to be left alone whilst we walked with our own thoughts or happy to have a conversation while we walked. Our bus driver Greg was brilliant, great safe driver and always had our chairs out and ready for our breaks along with our food, drinks and snacks. Accommodation was great, especially in Portland at Victoria House with Mandy and John, look out for those cheeky gnomes!!! Mandy’s cooked breakfasts were delicious. The views over the first 3 days were so spectacular whether you were up on a cliff top or walking down by the water… Although the view changes once you start trekking inland, again it has its own beauty and the cows along the way are adorable. Give it a go, you will enjoy it…

After missing another Kokoda in 2020 I wanted to see what local treks were around and the Aussie Camino came up. I want to do a trek to get out and about and the piligram side of things was really a factor in why I signed up. But I learned so much history about an important part of Australia back in the day and Australia only Saint. The piligram side of the trek actually made it and gave it some purpose. Was amazing to see a part of Australia I hadn't been to yet, from the cliff tops, to the beaches and then heading inland thru SA across back roads, farm land, up a volcano, thru some amazing wee towns. This is a trek is a MUST to see a wonderful part of australia, meet the locals and learn the history of our only saint.

used Getaway trekking to follow in my fathers footsteps when he fought here in 1942 with the 2/27th it was a tough walk even though i had trained and built up my stamina
with hill climbing and gym Getaway was very professional and our trek master Laurie was fantastic we has a memorial at Bomara Cemetery that was very moving and tales of what the soldiers went through along the way.. another service at Isurava memorial battlefield with the carriers joining in with their national anthem was a highlight for us all trekking through villages and having great food along the track made this experience one that we will never forget reaching the Kokoda arch was such a thrill and release of satisfaction and achievement and walking in my Fathers boots more so now knowing the struggle they went through well done Getaway trekking and it didn't rain so that made it better
