Beautiful scenery, a good way from Guilin but actually the road between the two is canyons and mountains, very exciting if foggy or wet but well worth the visit. It can be cooler here though so worth taking a fleece or thin jacket if the weather is a bit rubbish.

A bit of effort to get to but worth it only if you like hiking(can also do minimal walking with the cable car up to the top). First take minibus ($21) from Guilin Qintan 琴潭station, change at 和平 for another bus ($20return) to Dazai (the better area). Whole journey from Guilin takes less than 3 hours. Lots of hiking, can... Very nice place to visit, but if you go there trough a daily tour probably they'll tell you that you need to take the cable cab (and pay 100more) because it's a hard way to go up and difficult to find, which is not true, they just want you to pay. We really enjoyed the way and was only 40min... More

We loved our trip to the rice fields. The hike up the numerous steps does require that you are in decent shape to do it. Seeing all of the buildings built into the steep hills and experiencing the culture of the village was a real pleasant surprise for us. It really reminded us of a trip we took to Murren... More

All of my guide books recommended the Dragon's Backbone rice terraces, but it's not a particularly easy destination to reach. However, it is more than worth the time and effort. In an extremely memorable and scenic trip through beautiful China, the rice terraces were my absolute favorite. There are a few options for hikes. I'm not a hiker. I made... More

This was a surprising hit with our family. A view of China so different from the urban environments. The views are unique, with the rice paddy terraces cloaking the hills. It being that bit cooler than lower reaches just made the hiking that bit easier. We loved hiking through these hills, and all of us were just non stop snapping... More

It's a shame that such a nice area is not beeing preserved as it should. Everywhere was plenty of rubish.

One of the most amazing sites in China. Take your time and climb to the top. View is spectacular and climb worth the views. Stop on your way back down and have lunch and enjoy some snake wine. Absolutely amazing. If your are unable climb, for fee you can be carried in a chariot.
