The gentle ups and downs means that you never need to peddle too hard. Worth taking your swimsuit to have a swim on the way back. A thoroughly enjoyable ride

Great trails to walk or cycle on. Great information panels in various areas. Totem type poles on trail near Tirohanga are a stand out part of the trail. The parts we have walked/cycled are very easy and scenic. Enjoy the trail along beach in Tiroganga...More

Thank you for the review Isabell! Anyone planning a visit here, dogs are welcome on the Dunes Trail so long as they are under good control. This is really important as, in addition to other trail users, the area has some pretty special native birds,...More

This is a beautiful track that heads east right along the coast hence The Dunes moniker. Gently undulating this track is well maintained and accessible to riders of all levels.

Give it a go! Start from the bridge in town and even if you get to the Tirohanga Store, you've achieved a great ride. I'm a novice and my bike's gears weren't changing properly but still managed the wee rises. There are stops along the...More

Great stuff, sounds like you had fun :) Agree, it is so cool to see lots of families using the Dunes. Good luck with those gears ;)

This ride runs from Opotiki along the coast through the Dunes, undulating gently up and down. It's 11km one way. Beautiful views of beach and farmland. We ride it at the end of the Motu trail and loved it and also he might before in...More

What a fantastic track for biking it covers many different terrains from gravel track, small rises, open road and a board walk across the sand, the views are simply the best, a must for everyone to do while in Opotiki.

Thank you for the review. The barriers are indeed a pain, they are set to suit as many people as possible but that is not everyone. They are needed to stop motor bikes from getting on the trail: if they were removed, things would be...More

I do appreciate an activity that the whole family can enjoy. The track starts in Opotiki and is an easy 20km bike ride - 10km there and 10km back. Take water, however there is a petrol station at the 9km mark (through the camp ground)...More

Thank you for the review. You're right, it can get hot! Over time, hopefully there will be more shade :) There have been literally thousands of shrubs/trees planted — some are shooting away now. Best wishes.
