Please note, this museum is NOT open on the weekends.
If you have any interest in textiles, you must go to this museum. It's housed in an old textile factory and we had a personal tour in Bulgarian (as we were the only visitors). It spans over two floors and they have many different types of operating looms/machinery to make fabric. I was surprised that some of them work and that the guide actually demonstrated everything she could!
I believe they also have summer classes for children and are associated with one of the universities in Sliven. Even my Bulgarian in-laws were impressed with this museum. Probably one of the best I've seen in Bulgaria for it's size and how thorough it was in exploring the subject.

A visit to the National Textile Museum is not to be missed during a stay in Sliven. The town of Sliven is a small industrial town. The National Textile Museum is located on the northern outskirts of the city. Admission was free on the day of my visit. The staff was very nice and friendly; however, speaks neither German nor English. A visit for wheelchair users or disabled people is not possible in this museum. There is a lack of an elevator and there are stairs to cope with. Upstairs, the interested visitor gets to see old wooden looms in some rooms. In the basement you can see more modern, partly still functioning textile machines. It is also possible for a person skilled in the art to get to know the operation of the machines at a demonstration. Very interesting! A visit is definitely worth it because of the tour. Highly recommended!
