This place houses the highest post office in the world. Hikkim also has the highest polling booth in india. Travellers will be flocked by little kids asking for chocolates.

hikkim uptill now was a well hidden village in harshest and remotests part of spiti.worth your visit.take an experienced driver alongside as roads are tricky and safe driving is recommended.Now on its way of becoming a popular tourist place

Just returned from my 1st solo trip to Kaza. So here I am sharing my experience with you all. I won't get into how I felt, what it was like etc etc......that's something one can only feel when there. Hikkim, Komic, Langza, Losar..... All are a must visit.
- Trip: Panchkula - Kalpa - Kaza - Panchkula.
- Vehicle: Creta (Diesel)
- Total distance covered: 1220 Kms
- Duration of trip: 6 days (2N at Kalpa, 3N at Kaza & 1N in transit during my way back).
Suggestions (if planning a self-driven trip in Winters around end of Nov):
- Take lots of warm clothes, and wear in layers. Its extremely dry, windy & cold.
- In case of a Diesel vehicle, do not depend on Anti-gel etc. Keep a Kerosene stove with you (or buy 1 from Kaza market which I did).
- Put high-grade engine oil in your vehicle (fully Synthetic Engine oil). I used 5W-30 which works between -25C to 35C.
- Keep enough food for 3-4 days (in case of emergency) along-with water (although the water bottles froze in Kaza as they were lying in the car overnight).
- Do not rely on your phone for pictures, keep a camera with extra batteries. I couldn't click any pictures in Hikkim, Komic & Langza as batteries of both my phones simply died (0%) as the temp there was around -10C. Or get a Fleece phone cover so that you can keep your phone warm.
- You'll find pretty bad roads between Powari & Pooh, Ka & between Sumdo & Tabo.
- Keep extra days in hand in case you get stuck due to a landslide, snow etc..... these things do happen after Pooh. Although BRO & GREF work round the clock (365 days 9AM thru 5:30PM) but you never know.
- If you are not used to high altitude then see a doc before leaving for your trip & check if you should be having Diamox for AMS.

It's a must do activity. Buy the postcards from kaza for 20rs each. For bbay you have to put 6 rs stamp. It took around 7-8 days for the first postcard to reach.

Reaching the place in itself is a challenge as roads are often blocked. Visited while
It was fully snowy around and one can’t fathom the remoteness of this place. At the post office, local villagers distributed sumptuous local bread that was as thick as a pizza crust but as crispy as any normal roti. Along with butter, melted in mouth in the cold weather. Would highly recommend to have an overnight stay at either of Hikkim or Komic to experience the beauty, a visit of a few hours won’t do justice. Limited homestay options available.

Tourist should carry post cards from Kaza and also if Possible carry stamps from kaza itself, sometimes u wont get stamps if stock is over.
Go with wriiten message on postcards which will save your time for furthur places.

Hikkim is situated at 4400 mtr & the highest village which is inhabited all year round.
The village has highest post office from where you can post mail to loved ones. One can visit nearby Comic village also with very scenic views.

Worlds heighest post office is in HIKKIM.
I visited the village and the post office. ialso posted a pre printed post card to my parents from there with my personalised message.luckily the india post delivered it also.

Has the worlds highest working Post office. Gives a breath taking view of the snow clad mountains. Tea snacks available at shop. Local ornaments shop also available.

I heard about this place before going to Spiti. So was predetermined to go there and post a postcard back home. We did it and gladly got it delivered within 15 days back from Hikkim. What a place and what beauty its restoring. Seriously if you are not in this place you can't understand its vastness and immense natural beauty. I am highly recommending to come here (Spiti) for a life changing experience.
