Overview
More
Bun Bang Fai is a rocket festival that takes place in the northeast of Thailand (known as Isan) and in Laos. Yasothon has the biggest event, with some rockets reaching up to 9 metres in length and weighing over 100 kg. Entrants aim to impress judges by setting off beautiful rockets that go higher and farther than their competitors. It takes place during the May full moon, and is a way of making merit and an offering to bring a successful rainy season. It is a dangerous, exciting and extremely fun Thai version of a rain dance, with lots of music, dancing and a wonderful party atmosphere, set in the sleepy rural town of Yasothon.

3 Days of freedom, dancing, Issan music, Morlam sing, street food, and then the rockets! One of the greatest public celebrations in the world. It's real and free . make the burning man, Glasto and NHG festivals look pathetic ..something for all..

it is something between NASA and Civil War :) Absolutely amazing how big those rockets are and how high the fly. It is far from Bangkok, but if you are around it is really worth to see.

Truly a spectator sport. Mix and mingle with all the teams during the event, even bet on them. Heart pounding adrenaline not knowing if the rockets will launch, explode or fly into the crowds. Earplugs are a must as the noise rivals a jet engine....More

An amazing spectacular scene as dozens of big home made Rockets are fire up and drift down by parachute. It's a competition with beautiful floats, dancing and music.

11 - 13th May. Not sure if you could fart that far! I think it's 2 - 3kms from a lot of the hotels to the show grounds. Not sure about camping.

Also, prices jump by 30-50% over this weekend, so be prepared for minimum 1000 Baht. BM Grand Hotel in the main street is another option ?
