Beautiful place in Karakoram Road! We stopped by for lunch in a yurt - very local food. The lake view is simply amazing. We hanged around for a while taking photos and enjoying the amazing scenery

Visited in May but freezing cold winds. Had picnic lunch in a traditional yurt. Toilets were very dirty and smelly. I nearly threw up.

Stopped here for a picnic and told we could not park off the road by police. By the way Xingjiang is now a police state and the local milita attached to the police are a bunch of thugs who like to throw their wait Around

If you're around Kashgar, this is a trip worth a visit. It could be done as a day trip, an overnight trip (stopping at Tashkorgan) or a two night trip in summer (staying a night at the lake at a yurt and another night at...More

Security is tighter in Kashgar than in other Xinjiang provinces so it can be a great hassle to travel up to Tashkurgan (speed limits, about 8 multiple police checks where you have to get out of the car, no headscarf/head covering is allowed) but it...More

One of the most beautiful lakes I've been in my life. It is closer to Tajikistan, to a lesser extent Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor, than Pakistan. There are Kyrgz nomads as well. I went in winter so while the lake itself was frozen it was indeed...More

Very beautiful. Met some Takjiks children and had photo taken with them. Very friendly people. They may try to sell you cheap small ornaments.

I had an awesome visit in December with Kashgar Guide. Although the weather was cold at zero degrees centigrade, just a jacket and fleece is enough.

The lake is absolutely stunning on a sunny day. Unfortunately the day I visited was overcast and I couldn't see a reflection of the mountain on the surface of the lake. Before you go there, you had better check the weather forecast.

This beautiful lake was well worth the long and tedious journey from Kashgar. The first few hours of the road have a 40km per hour limit so it took us five hours to reach the lake where we spent an hour. Be aware that the...More

I don't know about public buses but van trips are organised daily through hotels and accommodation. Although a permit is not necessary, there are several security checks along the way so you need to always carry your... More
