From Karakul Lake you can have a very nice view to the peak of 7546m high Mount Mushitage with the lake in front (if the weather is fine).

A visit there is absolutely worth, but be aware, the overnight stay in a yurt (round tent of the nomadic Uighur population) is not allowed any more due to security & sanitary concerns. The Mustagh Ata, just reaching up to the sky (7,570 m) is...More

It took nearly 5 hours drive from Kashi to the lake, on the way, you can see the white sandy beach which I personally think is more beautiful than the Karakul Lake. The outcome of the pictures are very nice. This area is occupied by...More

I've heard many good things about the views and scenery at Karakul Lake. But actually, it all depends upon the time of the year and even the day of the week when you visit. My wife and I traveled along the Karakoram Highway the last...More

A pristine lake surrounded by majestic mountains that are reflected off the lake's surface. The entire place is picture perfect. At sunrise the sun rises behind the mountains making sun rise worth getting up for! I can't say how beautiful this place was.

Visiting Karakul lake is compulsory if you are in Kashgar. The Karakoram highway towards Tashkorgan is now nearly 100% fully paved with new and repaired roads. Enjoyed the scenes of snow-capped mountains all the way to Tashkorgan. Personally I don't think a night stay at...More

We went to the lake in mid April. it's a long drive and in summer the lake must be beautiful (also in winter) but in April the snow had mostly melted, the ice on the lake had nearly gone, but the chill wind made picnicking...More

The lake is along the Karakoram highway. The views along the lake are superb and offer great photos. Do bring warm clothes as the wind can be strong and cold.

We were lucky to have clear weather when we visited the Karakul Lake, and a clear blue sky makes a LOT of difference to the scenery. We stayed a night at a Yurt, and we managed to catch the sunrise view the morning after. It's...More

In the past, this was probably an adventurous day trip. Now it's connected by a new highway to Kashgar and is an easy drive on sealed roads. Most interesting is the scenery along the highway, and an opportunity to get out into the countryside /...More

There was construction and expansion of the Karakoram Highway when we were there in early October 2016. It was never closed so it should be open in April.
