- Dhaval MMumbai, India49 contributionsDivine experienceAmazing place with positive spiritual energy. I visited this place post the visit of our Hon'ble PM and it turned out to be quite a divine experience. Since it was Sabrimala season in December there was a bit rush, else, there wont be too much rush. Easily in an hour you can finish the darshan. Here ompulsory males have to wear dhoti (mundu) and females need to wear Sarees / Salwar kameez.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 December 2023
- SumonBengaluru, India112 contributionsBliss!I don't think one can rate a place like Guruvayoor temple.. It's the belief of the devotees which make such places an experience in spiritual bliss... The place is divine, and is quite well managed. If you do plan to visit the sanctum sanctorium then you need to do loads of planning as there is always a rush.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 January 2024

Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Guruvayurappan, who is a four armed version of Vishnu, worshipped mainly in Kerala. He is the presiding deity of the temple who is being worshipped as Shri Krishna in his infant form.
The temple is very well organized and functions like a well oiled machine, opening at 3 am in the morning, and there are daily five pujas and three circumambulatory processions of the deity on an elephant, and finally closing at 10 pm at night. There are special timings for senior citizens from 7 am to 8 am and then again from 4.30 pm to 6 pm, without any entry fee. We decided to go for the evening darshan but still had to wait in the queue for about half an hour. We were allowed to go in batches and we joined the general public once we entered the temple. We had a good darshan of the Lord, and I could see his shiny black eyes looking piercingly back to me through the dim light. We had a good minute to view the idol and it indeed seemed that he was blessing us.
There is a strict dress code we had to adhere to. Men can only wear dhotis and nothing to cover the chest. I took off my shirt before entering and carried it with me. Ladies can wear sarees or salwar kameez, but not jeans or shorts.
After darshan we went to the Prasad Hall where we were served the holy meal which consisted of a small elaichi banana, some upma and a glass of some sweet flavoured syrup. After keeping our steel utensils in the washroom we exited the temple.

Everything was smooth, but do the online booking for Darshan well in advance, at the Guruvayur Dewaswom official website, to make it hassle free. If one misses it then an on-counter ticket has to be purchased and it would cost Rs 1000. The only challenge is that there was no place to change clothes and wear Lungi so one should change at Hotel and go for Darshan (Western outfit not allowed). There was no rush during the weekday and could get a peaceful darshan of the lord.

We had been there to fulfill some thualbhaarams taken. It starts at 5.00 am, hence we took the 4.00 am slot for special shree kovil darshanam. The advantage that we had was a very less queue as compared to the free darshan. However, as you enter the sanctum santorium, everyone converges, irrespective of free or paid darshan.
We had some archanas to be done and were not aware that we had to collect the prasadam BEFORE exiting the main sannidhi. However, the devasom people were very helpful as they offered to collect it for us and give it. The system is excellent for collecting various prasadams, there is a separate counter for paying and collecting. Very well organised.
Thualbharam que was quite long even at 4.30 am. There are separate scales for banana and other offerings, prices of which are clearly mentioned.
Overall, the management is very well organized and managed.

This temple has it's own vibrations..
Due to Corona, only pilgrims with online booking ticket are allowed.
If you have not done your online booking -
Don't panic.
Just take a Xerox copy of your Adhar card and just hand over it to the temple authorities waiting at the side of the temple entrance.
You will be allowed to have darshan..
No mobile and bags are allowed.
Keep it in the counter present near the entrance where you are waiting for your Darshan in queue..
Morning at 9.30 special milk payasam is distributed to the pilgrims at a moderate cost.
The tickets for it will be given at 9 a.m in the ticket counter present in the back side of the temple..
If you need, you can get it .
Neatly maintained and no more words to express the wonder of this temple.
Come, have Darshan and feel it..

Now who can review the home of Krishna himself. Albeit some useful tips for those who wish to visit the majestic Guruvaryur temple.
The temple gets crowded on weekends, so if possible visit on a weekday, alternatively the 1000/- per head passes are totally worth it and can be easily booked online as well as at the temple itself.
Dress code is strictly observed, however there are shops near by which can provide Mundu for men (Lungi), with a velcro. Trust me, its really convenient with a velcro.
Though there is a cloak room service, however the queue to put things there is long, so most of the people just leave their footwears outside somewhere. We did the same and found them exactly as is at the same spot :).
The special darshan takes about 30 minutes, with the crowd being organized nicely, though the time one gets infront of the deity is only about 2-3 sec. So make sure you are attentive to make the best use of it.
Parking facility is available closer by but mostly full, and honestly not ample for the kind of crowd the temple attracts.
For those who do not know Malayalam, its a bit of challenge out there to figure out the right place to get in the queue. Make sure to confirm from 2-3 people to avoid any misunderstandings.

The trip to the temple was after our breakfast with my cousins at Lilac Hotel, a 4* hotel near the temple. We got driven in a beautiful TATA Jeep by courtesy of the hotel.
However, at Guruvayoor Temple was a different story. The queue to witness the Arati and pray we're in hundreds of not thousands on public holidays, festive seasons and auspicious days. This queue is to get into the Temple proper and it will definitely take hours to have a 3-4 minutes glance and prayer.
We did not get into the queue as we walked through the thick crowd and made ourselves to the entrance of the main altar where Lord Guruvayoorpoan is situated. Though it is far away, the Arati can be seen for a quick glance and prayer.
Nevertheless, there is a paid system to get in faster. For Rs.1,000 (USD12) per person ticket, you could get in quicker. For a group of 4 the fee is RS5,000 (USD60) plus prasad and some food included.
I was told that to get these tickets itself the queue is long.
So those who would like to go with lesser hassle, one has to be there by 4.30am to 5am for the 6.30am prayers.
Guruvayoorpoan is Lord Krishna and he is widely worshipped by Malayali Hindus. If you want to go inside the temple there is a humble dress code of veshti moondu. No pants and shirts are allowed. This rule is universally applied.

Always very rush, take hours to go into temple and finally get only one glimpse of Lord Krishna. But still the peace you get here unimaginable. Here every body is equal and no short cut to see Lord. Only senior citizen get some preference. A compulsory dress code. Once you visit here you always stay blessed.

The Guruvayur Temple the Divine Abode of Kannan, and the divinity one can experience here. But, the so called Devasom, Anthamkammi Devasom Atheist Devasom their mismanagement of the Administration is so devastating. The Deepavali day even otherwise the crowd management is so poor, These dyfi goons who is in devasom do not know how to behave. Useless comerades has been appointed as Administrative heads and the serving people they are so rude and devastating behaviour from them The stupids do not know when the nada opens and what kind of poojas is happening in Guruvayur, Again, there is a deep plan going on to make this Ekadasi 2023 Guruvayur Ekadasi controversial, heard from the temple that this anthamkammi devasom is planning not to open the Thirunada on Dwadasi day, so no dwadasi villakku achaara langanam is the mugha mudra of the Pinu kammi government. Kerala Devasom should be dismissed and Bhakthas should be given in charge of all the Temples.

Will there be a separate queue for senior citizens, the whole of this month(May)? I understand that during certain festival seasons the authorities cancel this privilege. I hope you will respond to my enquiry at the earliest. Thank you 🙏
