Some of the recent reviews were surprising...Of course, it helps to have an interest in horses to visit a stud farm. However, just spending time with the mares and foals can be magical, even for non-horsey people. My husband and I loved our time there,...More

I was very much looking forward to visiting this place but it was very rundown. The horses appeared to be in good condition. We were told they offer an English speaking tour but when we got there was not one on offer although the guide...More

This is an amazing mecca for horse lovers, with a long and proud story integral to the history of Portugal, but has lost it's State funding due to the financial crisis. Still WELL worth a visit!

Amanda, you can google the Coudelaria do Alter for more info on activities. I believe you can make arrangements to ride there, but don't be deceived-it will not be on any of the stallions. They have a demonstration of... More
