Beautiful trek
Apr. 2021 • Family
Take a trek to the peak or from the peak to down. Useless 50 years old land rovers (association/union) come to ur rescue or rather headaches. But the views take away ur bad experience.

Its awesome silent place. Only two home stays are there one is GTA trekkers hut (booking from gorkha bhawan saltlake sector 1)& another is Raju ka ghar(booking number 9635690583) Its really nice.in the month of December snow covered the area. I reached there through trek from dhotrey. Its a mere 6km journey and nice two huts are there.

A heady fragrance in the mountains
Oct. 2017 • Couples
A quaint hamlet between Manebhanjan and Sandakphu, Tonglu is a perfect retreat to detox and explore the mountains. When the rhododendrons and magnolias bloom, Tonglu turns into a riot of colours. There are more than 600 varieties of orchids in the forest resulting in the heady fragrance oozing in the air.
The surrounding areas are tranquil and it is a getaway to meditate. And the night sky dotted with thousands of stars makes up for the pitch dark layout. Trek back to Dhotre in the afternoon for another stroll through the sub-Alpine forest.

Tonglu in Mid December
Dec. 2017 • Friends
We went for the Sandakphu Trekking in Mid-December. We preferred Tonglu over Tumling as our first night halt. And we found it was a good decision. We stayed at the Tonglu Trekkers Hut which is situated at Tonglu Hill Top and it is the only accommodation available at Tonglu. The altitude of the place is above 11000 ft. So it was very cold during mid-December. In the morning we found everything has turned silver. The mighty Kanchenjungha range was completely visible. The changing colors of the peaks during sunrise was awesome.

The best view of Kanchendzunga I ever had.
Jan. 2018 • Friends
This place is heavenly. This was my first trek and probably one of the most memorable moments of my life too. The view of Mount Kanchendzunga is totally clear and at a perfect angle from this place, where you can see "Sleeping Buddha" from everywhere you go.

Tonglu is a small village situated at a mountaintop which is mainly used by trekker(en route to Sandakfu) as place for spending night. We started trekking from Dhotrey and it took us approximately 4.5 hours to reach Tonglu. The homestays are quite clean and the hosts are very welcoming as well as helpful. We went there in the month of January, so we expected a clear view of Kanchendzunga next morning.Luckily, Tonglu did not disappoint us. I, personally witnessed the most beautiful sunrise of life with a clear view of Kanchendzunga, while it changes it's color with the rising sun.

After breakfast, we went for a short trek to a nearby monastry situated in the lower part of tonglu and spent some time there.

The weather was very chilling (in morning, it was near to 5-6 degree), and at night it was near to minus degree. There is a lot of wind which will make you even colder than it actually is. But, you will forget everything each time you look at the gigantic Sleeping Buddha lying in front of you. :)

Adding some pictures clicked by me there. If you are planning to go there, do not hesitate, just go!! You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!

Wonderful highlands where the sun plays hide and seek!
Feb. 2018
People keep talking about Tonglu and Tumling (also spelt Tumbling) for their wonderful views of the Kangchenjunga. Nevertheless, last month when I was in Tonglu, returning to Maney Bhanjyang from Sandakphu, the weather was cloudy and misty and I couldn't get a glimpse of the snowy peaks (I've seen them from Sandakphu nevertheless).

However, what amazed me and my wife were the amazing highlands where the sun was playing hide and seek with the seek, and horses grazing underneath. Both of us being English literature people, we were immediately reminded of the heaths in Thomas Hardy's novels. The view of Tumling from the Tonglu hill is beautiful, though I would say Tumling is a little more pretty place (the two places lie a couple of kilometers apart).

I don't want to spoil your amazement by saying too much; you should visit the place yourself. If you want to get a glimpse of the Scottish highlands in West Bengal, this is the place!
