While not as panoramic as San Benedetto,it is absolutely worth visiting and doing the tour on the monastery and also looking at the library Like many Roman Catholic buildings in Italy this has layers of history. Dating back centuries, it is still an active monastery...More

Named in honour of the San Benedict sister is the monastery downhill from the Sacro Speco. Being there is a must to see. Made in several different times you will visit three different styles of building. There are free guided tours starting every 15 minutes....More

Down a little ways from San Benedetto is Santa Scholastica, which is named for St. Benedict's sister. A lovely place, although less stunning than San Benedetto up the hill, it has amenities like a gift shop (buy the monks' homemade honey and jam) and a...More

Not worth a visit, especially compared to the nearby really magnificent monastery of San Benedetto. Santa Scolastica Monastery is rather modest, with some very damaged medieval frescoes, and a really ugly, ordinary church. Visit San Benedetto monastery instead!

After visiting the "older" monastery at Subiaco, we visited St. Scholastica. The cloisters are beautiful and the bell tower is stunning. Since it is an active monastery, much is off limits but there is much to see. Also, schedule a lunch at the monk's refectory....More

Interesting tour. Only available in Italian so can't say we understood everything. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the fine views from the outside space in front of the Fortesteria. Easy walk up to St Benedict's Monastery for a nice two sites with only parking...More

This monastery is not as beautiful as the nearby St. Benedict, but deserves a visit for its 3 cloisters that take you from the XVI to the XIV and to the XIII century. The bell tower being the center of it all. Also notable the...More

This is a wonderful Abby above the town of Subiaco where ST Scholastica lived. She was the twin sister of St Benedict. Closed from 12.30 for several hours. Lovely walk down the track beside the Abby to the town. About 20 - 30 minutes.

We stopped here on our hike up to San Benedetto. Santa Scholastica and San Benedetto are two names for the same monastery - they share an abbott, although monks live in both places. S. Scholastica is older, interestingly. You can get a tour if you...More
