A solid uphill walk as you wold expect to get to a lookout. The rock climb and vertical ladder at the top were not manageable by some older walkers when we arrived but the Karri lookout was only an extra 50 metres on flat ground and it also had great views. Views are well worth the effort. There is a park fee to pay to enter. If you intend to visit a few national parks over consecutive days, I would suggest purchasing the $25 /vehicle for 5 days ticket. This saved us $$. We don't mind contributing when such great infrastructure is in place and we found this to be the case at many parks we visited. This is a little out of the way but well worth the detour. We were however advised that it is not worth the climb if low cloud as views will not be as good. We had great views on our climb.

Amazing views across the plains. Walk slightly challenging at times but definitely worth it. Don’t forget to pay your entry fee to the national park as rangers patrol the car park regularly

Four of us, all aged over 60 did this walk. We took our time. On arrival at the first viewing platform we were impressed with what we saw. There was no trouble getting to this spot. Next it was time to clamber over rocks and up a steepish ladder. No major problems. The views were great.
A small level of fitness is required as is being a little flexible is required.

The granite skywalk located in the Torndirrup National Park had sufficient parking. Parking tickets required and toilet blocks are located next to the car park.
The hike trials through dirt and natural ground with a gradual ascent. There were route markers at regular intervals informing of the distance remaining to the top. The trail can be muddy after a rain event so where appropriate footwear.
At the top, there are two platforms. The lower deck can be accessed easily but the skywalk requires some climbing-over-big-boulders to get to the metal ladder that leads up to the skywalk.
During our visit it was quite windy so beware of headwear as it can get blown off. Spectacular views of the surrounding area can be viewed at the top.
We did the hike (with kids; 3yr old and 6yr old) in 3 hours, 1.5hr each way. It was an enjoyable hike even for the kids. Plenty of shade during the hike under the trees so it was pleasant. There were even some wildlife (roos and birds) spotted during the hike which added some excitement for the kids.

Walked 2km approximately to get to the Granite skywalk , where you have to manoeuvre through some rocks holding onto steel holdings and also climb a ladder to get to the platform . Once there the view is amazing. Not for the faint hearted but saw many people and children of all walks but just be prepared for the long walk up. Worth a visit.
Car park fee is now $15 and you can pay by automated machine via eftpos and leave ticket on dashboard of your vehicle. Toilet facilities available too.

We absolutely loved every minute of this 2.5 hour return hike. Directions - Located 40 mins from Albany, take Chester Pass Rd north and follow this for 36km until you reach the turn-off for Porongurup Rd. Keep going for another 3km until you see the signs for Castle Rock Granite Skywalk. There is ample parking and the trail head is easily located. Do not carry more than you need as the hike up will surely get the heart rate going. Later your clothing. Whilst it may be cool the begin with, you will definitely break a sweat. Wear proper grip sneakers or better still, hiking shoes. It can get muddy in areas so don’t wear your favourite kicks. There are plenty of signs along the trail, you won’t get lost. Bring first aid for scratches as it’s highly probable. After about 45minutes of hiking steep terrain you will reach the first lot of boulders. Great for pics but there’s nothing to break your fall so be careful. Then you go through 2 areas of scrambling rocks. I enjoyed this part although if your not strong, flexible and good with balance then you may find it hard. Although done slowly it’s achievable. Then you reach the bottom of the 6m ladder to the summit. Again I loved it. It’s caged for safety and comfort. The summit is incredible. You can hang out as long or as little as you want. The view is breathtaking. I rate this experience 10/10. No complaints. Loved it, so did the teenagers.

Has seen images of the sky walk and as we were driving by I decided on the spur of the moment to give it a try. Located on Porongurup Road, about a 25min drive from Mount Barker. It has a large car park with toilets at the base of the walk. As it is located in the Porongurup National Park, there is a park fee of $15/vehicle - there is an unmanned/automated ticket machine near the toilets.
In my eagerness to get started I neglected to read all the information at the start of the walk. Firstly there is a Grade 4 walk (2.2km) which is about 1 hr walking up a steep path through the Karri and Marri trees. Then there is a Grade 5 walk (15mins) essentially scrambling up the large granite boulders, using metal handholds, and then a 7 metre enclosed ladder to the actual skywalk.
I only read the bit about the sky walk and thought it would be a breeze. If you are going to attempt this then I would suggest you bring decent walking/hiking boots, light weight clothing, bottled water, a jumper/pullover (as it can get cool when you at the top) and a camera.
The trek up the hills is relatively steep and there are a lot of slippery, rough and uneven surfaces along the trail - there are however plenty of spots when you can stop, rest and catch your breath.
Be prepared when you get to the skywalk to have to wait to climb the boulders, as the is often a queue. The views from the sky walk are 100% worth the climb.
The walk back was easier than the walk up but leave yourself a hour to trek back.

We decided a cute little group walk was in order after the party the night before.
The walk is not easy and a moderate level of fitness is required. When you get to the top you will need to climb over rocks and then up a ladder, but was the view worth it! Beautiful sunshine, clouds and a wedge tail eagle hanging around.
The walk down is lovely at a slower pace
Recommend going as early as you can to beat the foot traffic on the paths and the line for the ladder up to the skywalk.

You must pay 15 dollars for entrence of the Park at the car park. As everywhere in Australia there are clean toilets. The climb is steep and wear good walking boots/shoes. You are rewarded at the top with a fantastic view. There are two options at the top. You can climb a big rock to a walk all around the top or you can settle with the view from a balcony. The sign says two hours from the car park to the top and back, and that is true. Dont bring push charis you will ending up carrying the kind and the push chair. Kids under the age if five will struggle to make it on their own legs.

An amazing feat of engineering. After a 2.2km walk up the hill you have the option of the lower viewing platform, or taking the last climb to the top. Two sections of boulders have you scrambling up Castle Rock. Grab handles are in place to help at this stage. One set of boulders can also be crawled under if that’s easier than climbing over. Then it’s a 7metre ladder to the top of the walkway. Amazing views from the top, well worth the effort.

Is it about a 4.5km return walk or 6km one way (I saw on a website they mention 6km but not if it is one way or return)?
Thank you

It’s about 2km one way. So, yes 4km return. There were lots of kids and families walking , so you shouldn’t have any issues. Treat it as a leisurely walk and you’ll be fine.
