Visited over Easter. Called there late in the day with it raining heavy. Walked around the perimeter wall with our brollies. There had been an event with side shows with people all dressed up. We were there it a bit late to enjoy.

We visited over a very wet Easter bank holiday but this didn’t ruin the day. It is free to walk around the outside of the walls but to enter into the castle is payable. There are stairs to climb to walk around the top of...More

A good place to visit, and had the weather been better we would have spent more time walking around and enjoying the picturesque mere. The history of the place is varied and well explained and the cafe is nice with plenty of seating.

Not a great deal to see here as it's mostly the castle walls that remain but there is so much history surrounding the castle. Free audio guides available including a setting for kids with a Horrible Histories setting and an adult version. Thought that was...More

Never tire of visiting here. I love the events-great for the kids-lots of Thud and Blunder! The town is also very interesting.

We visited the castle in February half term so we got the added bonus of being able to try on armour and see presentations on life of medieval knights which were interesting. The castle walls are quite impressive and you can walk the whole way...More

Even on a bitterly cold day, the castle provided plenty of scope for energy and learning. The cafe was too small for the number of visitors needing it but staff helpful and plenty of tables outside for picnics. On top of the entrance fee (hefty...More

I arrived early after a long drive and wanting to visit for many years (now made famous by Ed Sheeran 'Castle on the Hill') not disappointed! Interesting history and plenty of information about past owners and relationships with the monarchy at the time. Great to...More
