About
This museum is uniquely housed within the original state heritage-listed shire council building. The Landsborough Shire Council Chambers, built in 1924, is a modest, low-set timber construction that was designed by the early-settler architect, Walter Carey Voller. Within the museum the region’s history unfolds, from the Kabi Kabi canoe made by Traditional Custodians, to early settler stories. Photos, memorabilia, artefacts, equipment and everyday items offer an insight into the lives of the early pioneers. Changing exhibitions celebrate important events that inspired or had significant impact on the region. Enjoy the museum’s range of events including talks, activities and the annual street festival. This historic town, which was named after explorer William Landsborough, is situated just off Steve Irwin Way, an easy hours’ drive from Brisbane and close to tourist attractions. It is the gateway to the Maleny-Montville scenic drive.

This 'little' (not so little, actually!) museum is a GREAT place full of wonderful displays, helpful volunteers, folders FULL of old info (...browse the maps, etc. in the Reading Room...) and historical detail presented in interesting ways. It was not difficult at ALL for me to spend the entire day here (...which was lucky/how I'd planned my day, as I'd arrived by train and walked across from the station; no car to drive elsewhere, even if I'd wanted to!).

It's very centrally located in Landsborough, across from a couple of cafes, and the town's news agency...just around the corner from the pub, bakery, jeweller, op shop and more cafes, with the only drawback being that it appears the main road outside the museum can be a bit busy to try to cross on foot, sometimes!

There is lots of pioneer exhibitions and historical memorabilia to see here at this museum.

As like many historical institutions, this is entirely run by dedicated volunteers., so the $10 entry fee may seem steep, but it is for a good cause.

Be aware it is only open 4 days a week from 9am- 3pm and is closed on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.

The museum is very interesting, covers the early history of the area and its pioneers. Equipment that was used in the milling of timber and many other exhibits, well worth a visit.

The Landsborough Museum had a special WWI exhibit while we were there in July 2015 that was very good. The museum also has a very nice collection of farm implements and other well curated materials from the area. Be sure to check out the portrait gallery in their research area before heading into the exhibits, very interesting!

This museum is a social history museum & displays the the things once owned by the pioneers of the area once known as Landsborough Shire. It is a not for profit organisation run solely by volunteers. Well set out & wheelchair friendly. A must to see!

A good insight into the pioneering families who settled the Blackall Range and its foothills. A lot of old farming and timber getting equipment. Very well set out and explained. When we visited there was a special exhibition regarding four young people who had left the area to go and fight in the First World War. It is very well put together.

Great local history museum. We are of an age that we recognised so many bits and pieces from our childhoods.

There was also a very good presentation on the lives of some local First World War soldiers and nurse which I found particularly touching.

Stopped here on our way up to Maleny - at the entrance it says more than 14.000 exhibits and that's a fact - very interesting displays of time dated machinery, equipment and artifacts - mostly early 1900's through to the 80's - lots of I remember that or I had one of those - we should have spent longer than the hour we had to spare - run by volunteers - $10 entry fee - enjoyable and thought provoking
