Lovely place
Jul. 2021 • Family
A lovely walk around the walled gardens, followed by a scone and a coffee. We then went to see the pigs and goat and got a bit lost in the maze. I picked up some beer and we looked in the museum. It was a lovely place and now we have a season ticket - well worth the money.

A place worth visiting
Jun. 2021
The tour round the house was very good with a guide who had lots of stories and information. He sometimes spoke a little quickly and we didn't catch everything he said but he was funny and informative and we enjoyed the time we spent there. The grounds were very pleasant to wander around too. It was lovely to sit in the cafe gardens having lunch but the service in the cafe was however a bit slow.

Magnificent house and gardens
May 2021
Fantastic house and gardens for a day out. While staying just down the road near Peebles we stumbled on this place and decided to visit. The house itself does provide tours but we just visited the garden and Cafe... and of course the gift shop to buy some of their beer brewed on site.

Very welcoming staff, and well maintained gardens with a fantastic walk along the river too.

Would highly recommend a visit (and purchase some of the beer) if you are in the area

Shakespeare Comedy
Jun. 2021 • Friends
Fantastic comedy. Intelligent and witty writing and the acting was brilliant. I particularly enjoyed the simple yet creative props and the miming of getting on and off a horse was priceless. Such a good show after a terrible lockdown year. Stunning walled location and drinkies on offer as well as smidge spray! The added Peacock and Heron flying over made it all the more special. Will return!

Great family day out in Scottish Borders to a spot of a great historic significance.
Sep. 2020 • Family
Traquair House with its surrounding grounds is an amazing site to explore near Innerleithen in Scottish Borders. We were not able to access buildings at the time of our trip up there but it was still worth coming. Having purchased an annual family pass online, which is probably the best value for money, it did not take much time to check in on arrival. The car park is quite spacious as well as the grounds of this historic site, so can accommodate many people.

With a site's map provided at the entrance it appeared to be very easy finding our way around. Gardens are quite big with the Maze being central attraction. This can be accessed by limited number of people, so on arrival I would recommend going to the Maze's entrance to book your time slot. It does not take longer than 15-20 minutes to walk around the Maze and kids absolutely love this. Next to the Maze there are farm animals, which also seem to attract as much as younger visitors as older ones.

Play Park is allocated nearby too, so there is plenty of space for kids to explore and enjoy themselves in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Rest of the gardens are not restricted to move around and it should not take longer than 1 hour to discover the most of its best attractions. In the walled garden, which is next to the car park, there is nice set up for a picnic or lunch from the Traquair House Cafe. Prices are very reasonable and there is plenty of space to be seated.

Since we visited Traquair House last year (September 2020) things could have changed a little bit, and hopefully buildings are now accessible for general public too. Whether they are open now or not it is great site of historic significance to visit with family.

Well worth a visit through the woodlands and the walled garden cafe!
May 2021 • Couples
We didn’t visit the house on this occasion. We took a walk through the woodlands and part of the gardens as our visit was unplanned. The woodlands are full of very old trees and the walks are accessible.
We visited the walled garden cafe which is all takeaway. All the food is made in the kitchen and there is plenty of choice. The coffee is good and so are the cakes. Well worth a visit!

Traquair B&B

An overnight stay at Traquair House was our Christmas present to one another. It was originally booked for last December but had to be changed because of you know what, the alteration of dates was all made so easily, thank you. To spend the night amongst so much history was an absolute honour, the few staff that we met were extremely helpful, friendly and professional. Our old canopy bed had a wonderfully comfortable mattress and pillows, spotlessly clean, and we slept like babies, for those who like every single thing to be just perfect they would probably be disappointed. The furniture is old, it has had woodworm, carpets have threadbare spots but it’s all history. There was also a beautiful vase of white night scented stocks in our room which really did scent the air.
After a tasty breakfast eaten in the old Still Room we were allowed to wander around the rest of the house ( obviously not the private rooms) , and enjoy all the history associated with it. We explored the grounds , some amazing old trees to be seen and lots of pathways to take. A truly memorable experience for us.

Amazing Wedding Venue
May 2021
We held our Sweetheart Wedding at Traquair House because it looked so Beautiful and it was even more so than the Website Suggested. A perfect setting for a Wedding we could not fault the friendly staff that gave the House and grounds a warm and relaxing ambiance.

We will no doubt return in the future to recapture the magical experience we had and to sample the really excellent breakfast, walk in the beautiful grounds and enjoy meeting more lovely people.

Thank you Traquair for making our day so happy and memorable.
