The chateau is pretty but the whole premise is a bit uncomfortable. This wealthy family owns the castle. They live in the upper floors (you can’t go there). They charge you €11 to enter and look around an hommage to themselves (a room full of family photos and another with the recent wedding dresses of the mom and daughter on display) on the lower floors, and a room a king slept in once. This family still says that the dad is a “Duke” despite the aristocracy and monarchy no longer officially existing for 200+ years. He just *would be* a Duke if not for for that whole thing. But they think they’re important (the wedding dress room tells you the daughter has just married a prince), and this is how they own the chateau privately. You know, previous generations of exploration and such. The ticket you get has a very cringe thank you message from the mom de Brissac thanking you for paying to upkeep the property. Very Bezos rocket « thanks to Amazon customers » ish. Oh, and the wine tasting is just trays of shot glasses with ~terrible~ wine in them. Just out in the open, you just take one (or several if you want to be sick). It’s pretty but you can see it from the road, and France has plenty of lovely public parks and gardens. If they want to have the common pleb maintain the property, perhaps they should ohhh I don’t know, hand it over to the public?

This was not the best choice for our first chateau on the Loire, but it was close and it was historic.

We drove into town and out again before we found a parking space. Plenty of car parks, but lots of parked cars. Finally found one and walked back to the castle. Impressive view from the outside. Big and square and solid. Very castle-like. Bought tickets and went into the grounds. Less impressive as we reached the building - clearly a mixture of styles from different eras.

Inside. A tour already in progressive. Informative and interesting. Mildly interesting things to see. Tapestries, paintings, furniture, a whole theatre, two kitchens (one dedicated to the sale of local wine). Some impressive furniture, and nice paitings. The guide certainly helped us to imagine the castle's history.

Out in the grounds again. Sat on a bench and reflected. The view from the outsde was certainly the best part.

Interesting chateau 10 rooms to view. During our visit the Marquis came up the staircase, dog lead in hand, there were 3 French people in front of us, he passed in front of them without a ‘Bonjour’ just a slight inclination of his head, we felt it was extremely ill mannered, considering it is the ‘plebs’ who are helping to keep this chateau going.
We were told that there was wine tasting, saw the bottles for sale, but no tasting available.

First, entry costs appreciably less than most other castles. Secondly, there are fewer tourists here than in the more promoted castles, making it much nicer to walk and take pictures...

The castle is considered to be the tallest, 7 floors, the actual exposure is only on the 3 first floors, plus there is a basement. Nice wines, you can taste and buy on the way out of the castle.

Around the castle is a pleasant park along the river, in some places turning into the forest. We went for another hour and a half after the tour of the castle...

The castle also rents out some rooms as a hotel, it would be nice to stay here, but the prices weren't humane at all for our dates, at €600 per night and up.

Brissac bills itself as the region's tallest castle, which is a strange claim to fame, luckily, the castle is also grand, situated on a great domain and is well presented.

As a private castle that is still used as the family home, the decoration is quite different compared to the castles managed by the State. It has a more homely feel - while still clearly being a castle.

We appreciated the little excentricities of the family over the generations : from the private theatre, to the complete bound collection of Paris Match magazines and the hunting room covered in antlers.

The grounds are lovely and we had a lovely walk through them.

The visit ends with a wine tasting, which is probably more enjoyable when not limited by Covid protocols. But at least it was safe.

A very nice little visit.

Superb place. In addition to the beauty of the place, it is above all a house inhabited by the current owners, furnished and full of memories where the personal history of this family for 5 centuries and the history of France combine. The guide who has haunted the place for 40 years knows all its secrets and mixes anecdotes and history with humor. One of the most interesting castle visits we have ever made!

The two hostesses at the reception at the tea room level are very available. Then head to the castle. We arrived at the opening hour. In the hall of the castle a gentleman came to see us offering us a guided tour not mandatory outside the castle plus the rooms at the bottom. It lasted about three quarters of an hour. This Guide is very available and passionate , a pleasure to listen. A magnificent moment of sharing concerning the history of the castle. Then we visited the first floor. Everything is very well indicated for the visit. Each piece is numbered . This castle is splendid. The exteriors too. We had the opportunity to meet the Owner.

A castle already a long way away that imposes, and close up, it has two facades, the old and the new castle, it's impressive to see, it really makes the thing unique.
It is really beautiful and the park nice you can walk around and take beautiful pictures.
I had taken the guided tour, and the gentleman who did it with a voice or even closed eyes I think you would imagine the inside of the castle, so top and passionate he was about the history of the castle and the family.
The theater left me speechless, the inside is as beautiful as the outside..
The visit ends with tastings of wine from the vineyards of the castle, excellent by the way, returned with bottles.
The staff welcome is also perfect.
Really a wonderful visit under a sun.

We often go to the Château de Brissac and especially for the egg hunt, we have tried this activity elsewhere but the best in our eyes is at the Château de Brissac, this year there was the Easter bunny himself! The children were amazed, and I admit I fell back into my childhood too! He was more than great with the children, he gave a great animation performance and we felt that it came from the heart. The children hope to see him again next year!

Magnificent and immense castle in terms of its height. We feel very small.
Furnished, sumptuous interior. The park is large and well maintained, with a beautiful view. Small downside lack of signage in the park compared to the circuits and duration that can be seen on the website. And the pleasure of being able to taste their rosé wines was a bit like we discovered an excellent sweet rosé. We are a family of 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 7.
