It is located in a village called Tekutsuku, a little way in from the road around the island, and has a parking lot. There is a large Gajumaru tree, but there is also a large one nearby, so there are two of them, both of which are impressive, so I recommend seeing both. Both are about a minute away from the parking lot.

It was in the guidebook, so I went around there! The parking lot is well-maintained and it's easy to park your car. Because it was raining lightly, the footing was poor and it was a bit slippery to climb up and see the banyan tree trunks.

17年12月に訪問しました。
喜界島をレンタカーでドライブ中に、手久津久のガジュマルの看板を発見。
細い道を入りうろうろしていると、目の前に大きなガジュマルが。
とても大きく、いかにも神が宿っていそうな神秘的な姿にとても驚きました。
奄美や沖縄の大きなガジュマルは、どれも迫力があって、見とれます。

中心地から車で10分ぐらい。島の周回道路の標識に沿って曲がると突然ドーン!とそびえるがガジュマルの巨木!
これまで、沖縄や奄美でもガジュマルの木を見てきたけど、こんなにスケールの大きくて迫力のあるガジュマルの木は初めて見ました。高さ18mはガンダムと同じ高さらしいです笑。

タクシーで観光したさいに、がじゅまるも回りました。ドライバーさんは、「島の人にはなんてことないけど、、、本土の人には珍しいみたいね」と言ってましたが、迫力はありました。天然記念物です。

喜界島に観光名所が無いが故にクローズアップされますが、何のことは無いただの木です。
たしかに、南国にいかなければガジュマルの木自体見ることは少ないですが、だからといってただの木ですので大きな期待はしないほうが良いと思います。

喜界島の別の場所で見たソテツもそうでしたが、あまりの大きさに驚愕しました。主軸となる幹もそうですが、さらに分岐した枝も太く圧巻でした。
