The west side of Yakushima, centered around Nagata, reminds one of California's Big Sur coastline -- rugged, and remote, steep mountain plunging into the sea, waterfalls and wildlife everywhere. It even has a lonely lighthouse on a pinnacle. Finding a nice ocean vista and simply watching the sunset is a transcendental experience.

Hevenly sea. Tears falled in spite of myself because so so impressed.

This beach is very beautiful, calm and clean! This beach is well-known as the beach at sea turtles lay down eggs. If you are lucky, you can see sea turtles lay down eggs! And if you are super lucky, you can help releasing pretty small sea turtle baby to the sea.

The beach is beautiful and there was hardly anyone there when we visited. Argee with the previous reviewer about bringing an umbrella and drinks. We spent three blissful hours here just reading and basking in the sun.

White sand, warm water bring an umbrella to have some shade. We stayed for hours just being. The sunset was outstanding. Bring food and water, no restaurants or stores that we saw.

This is the best beach on the island and big enough not to feel crowed. The white sandy beach has some big rocks at the far end, which creates some nice natural pools and calmer water if it is a windy day.

Go to the turtle tour at night where you will see loggerheads laying eggs. Amazing experience!
