Eight of us were on the ms Volendam and one of our ports of call was Hososhima. After a lot of research, I came to the conclusion that Takachiho Gorge was the best place for us to visit on a shore excursion. Due to the...More

The gorge is beautiful. However, not easy to reach by public transportation, and not sure it's worth the hassle. Bpat ride is short, and the queue is LONG. If you get there early, you'll still have to wait at least 30 min. The later you...More

After a full day of torrential rain, boating was closed. Only got to see the fall from above. A very nice gorge and town in the mountains. Quiet and peaceful. Not exactly stunning, just very nice. A bit of a journey to get there. I...More

There is no bus service to there in week days. However, it took me about 5 minutes of walking to there under the google map direction. Although it is not so attractive for me, it does still worth going because it was very famous in...More

I lucked out with the weather when I was there, as it poured with rain as I walked through the gorge. The steep sides, waterfalls, and fantastic shapes the rocks make all combine to create an almost surreal landscape that makes for excellent photos.

A cute area with a small sample of scenery. Worth it if you happen to be driving by but the literature is very misleading and I certainly wouldn't make a special trip to visit it. It is incredibly unkept, has zero English/other language signage and...More

Hiring a boat for 30 minutes is fun, but rest assured, you have more than enough time to row the entire gorge and back. Scenery is beautiful though. The walk was closed (end December) which was a pity. Overall a good place to go for...More

I don't believe you can make it. Too far from Tokyo and it is not worthwhile to make such a day trip from Tokyo. Drop this idea.
