Beautiful scenery! You must take the boat ride (u will hv to row the boat yourself) to enjoy the best angle of the scenery. The hiking is also pleasant.

We went to Takachiho from Fukuoka for a day trip, by highwaybus on a Sunday. The gorge is beautiful, the boatride overrated. Rather spend time on walking and hiking around it.

I had always wanted to visit Takachiho due to its reputation as a locale steeped with Shinto mythology and I was not let down. The day before it had rained a lot, so it was not safe for boating through the gorge—but it was nice...More

There is a coin locker at Takachiho bus center. It is a 30-minute walk from Takachiho bus center to Takachiho Gorges.
