Clever strategy for offering artists an opportunity to transform a site into an artistic creation. The results are quite interesting and varied. An enjoyable afternoon stroll to take in the houses.

Loved these houses. They’re all so different and interesting in unique ways. We walked the whole island and loved walking around the various houses exploring all the streets and poking our noses into open doors to catch glimpses of beautiful gardens proudly offered for views,...More

The Art House Project has taken up the lead in restoration of vacant houses in Hommura with artists then taking up the spaces for exhibitions, both play a great part in preserving some of the most beautiful early Japanese house architecture I have ever seen....More

This town is half way between the ferry terminal and Benesse House. It takes about 10 minutes to bike ride here from the ferry. IMO these 6 installations were the highlight of the island. Each is brilliant, intellectuallly accessible yet thought-provoking. Plays on light and...More

These made me feel either I was missing something or I was being had. I don’t like the Tate modern or Sydney Contemporary either. Another poorly signposted place so more fun doing orienteering around Honmura than finding the art. Except for the James Turrell.

We did the trip to Naoshima to see the different art exhibitions. Overall it is nicely done, but as soon as you go off track it is a bit boring.

I love the Art House concept and the afternoon discovering these contemporary art works scattered throughout the quaint village. You must get tickets (either per house or a multi to see all of them) before you set off. Tickets are available at the Honmura Lounge...More

We discovered this island by accident. High speed boat ride is 50 mins from Takamatsu. We bought the ticket on the spot. The art house project is fab. Unique to turn old houses to display art. Very easy to walk around. Absolutely loved it. Make...More

The Art House Project took some abandoned houses and let artists transform them into art pieces. You have to walk around to the different location but they are all quite near each other. You start by getting a ticket to all of them by the...More

I don't know any other way of getting there...but it's worth it. I stayed on Shikoku but would recommend staying on Naoshima.
