People come to see sunset. During certain month the sun set through the hole of the island but not during December when I visited.

I visited this attraction to capture what people often call the "sunset in the rocks". Definitely, I wasn't disappointed and the sunset is just amazing beyond words. A must go!

Nice rock formation along the coast and if timing permits in the late afternoon or before sunset, great camera shots - weather permitting. Parking is done along the side of the highway and a bit of a walk if you do not drive. Some local anglers also fish along the coast.

It's nice when you want to go for an evening walk with such a nice view near the coast. The place is easy to be reached by bus or drive. Many locals Japanese also visit this place as it is a sign of Shirahama. Worth to go and they have separate special photo spots for shooting.

What can I say? Nice rocks. This is a small islet with a nearly round hole between them that allows you to see the sun set, if you're properly places. However, the entire Wayayama coast is cheek by jowl with amazing islets and rocky bits, so if you miss Engetsuto, no worries. You'll find something equally impressive wherever you end... More

Engetsu Island is about 400 meters from the coast. If you want to take photo with the background of this sandstone arch, you have to come in the morning; the rest of the day would be impossible because you are always facing with the sun. Tips for those driving to this place is not advisable to park at the fee... More

Interesting landscape which is a symbol of Shirahama, a rock with a hole. More convenient to drive there. Definitely a good place to view sunset.

This year i havent seen the sun set fits the hole though coz i try to go there during morning.haha. but last year, it was so awesome. Its a must when visiting shirahama. You can arrange your activities in this order, shirahama beach-senjojiki-sandanbeki-onsen(to relax after a tiring day)-engetsu around 6-8pm(japans sunset during summer were very late).

This is a rock worth dressing up in a frock to see. The sunset scene is amazing. There must be about a billion photos of this rock in the sunset and about only 12 photos with the sun directly in the centre of the hole. It's compelling. And the more photos you take, the more you want to take as... More
