Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From a historical standpoint this is one of the most important places in Koya-san. While it may not be spectacular at first glance, if you know the history it really drives it home. Not to mention the walk to get here through Okunoin is a highlight of a visit to Koya-san.

It was way too small for such a great people as Tokugawas. The settings around it looked like a construction site. Photos were not allowed when you cross invisible line, which they did not mark but somehow consider too close to the structure itself

Tokugawa’s Mausoleum For Ieyasu and Hidetada This complex consists of 2 ornately decorated buildings dedicated to the first Tokugawa shogun Ieyasu and the 2nd Tokugawa shogun Hidetada by the 3rd shogun Iemitsu. There is a 200-yen entrée fee. The brochure shows a nice picture of the interior of one of the mausoleum which is not open to the public. An easy walk up a hill from town on the way to the Nyonindo women’s temple.

the twin wooden mausoleum of Togugawa family member are both masterpieces of artwork of those time. What a pity !! I didn't know much about it because of lack of signs with description in other language, and Japanese. The art on both mausoleum was very beautiful. Have to go back to learn more about details and history of about these. I suggest to use the audioguide tour which are provided at the visitor center.

The mausoleum is a few minute walk off the main street of Koya. The mausoleum buildings are beautiful decorated. Access is limited.

Worth the walk? Yes. A disaster if you miss it? No.

Two old mausoleum buildings in a small yard that is not well maintained... Takes about 2 minutes to visit while getting charged 200JPY per person. Complete rip off.

We had a little time before the buses would be running, and popped along to see these. There's very little to see though- the wooden carvings are clearly the work of highly skilled carpenters but there is little information and nothing really here beyond looking at the outside of the mausoleum.
Don't regret going, as it was convenient.

We enjoyed it, seeing many of these sight. So much too see and take in, put on your good walking shoes that you can easily slip on and off though as you’ll be taking them off a fair bit as you walk through some of the locations here

Well worth the 1.6km walk along the path (much shorter if you use the paths from the car park) and an incredibly spiritual place even though I am not a buddhist.

Whilst much of the large area is open for photographs this area asks that it be treated with the ultimate respect - quiet, no photos however disappointingly not everybody listens to the suggestions or reads the signs.

Well worth the walk & a quiet thought about the world ina beautiful peaceful part of the forest/

Very ornate and beautiful buildings. This is small site, but the details of the buildings are very intricate and worth seeing.
