Best Temple Experience I've Had in Japan

Amazing. Gorgeous. Inspiring. Off the beaten path and worth every second. We spent 2 days here and were blown away. The views of Mt. Fuji just added to the experience.

286 stepps is not easy for babies or old ppl. But the place is awesome. Car Parking is 2km away from the temple during the cherry-blossom season. You can take bus from park lot.

My friend and I visited there in Apr last year, that's the cherry blossom season. It attracted quite many tourists, but we didn't find that too crowded. There were a number of large cherry blossom trees just nearby the magnificent temples. That gave me a feeling of peaceful and calm. Apart from my main objective - the cherry blossom, it... More

Whether you belong to the Nichiren sect or not, this temple is a spectacular series of buildings that serve as the heart of Nichiren Shonin's particular sect of Buddhism. It is an active temple, with daily services. We had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the New Year's Day services as well as the smaller prayer services offered on the... More

I loved this place, warning for visitors though not much English is spoken and only basic brochures so the detail is lost unless you are lucky enough like I was to make friends with a local while hiking to the top of Mt Minobu. The cable car was getting serviced so the only option was to hike to the top... More

Kuonji has not only long history and huge area, but also still attracted faith now in this 21st century. The temple area is cared .thoughtfully, calm and clean. It is very different from the temples in the urban district. There is a rope way to up the mountain and easy to reach the top of the mountain. If you are... More

Even with heavy rain, the visit to Kuonji was absolutely worth it. Going up 287 stone steps and reaching the top to see the pagoda and main hall of temple (which is totally free by the way) is something that has to be seen to be believed. Don't overlook this place if you're visiting Mount Fuji!

Minobusan Kuonji Temple is in Minobu,Yamanashi. There is a 400years old weeping cherry tree. Many buildings arranged in natural surroundings. It is above sea level at 1,153m and there are views across the bay. You can use lift going to the top. Spring cherry blossoms and this time including new year is stongly recommended.
