Must say the slopes aren’t beginner level (green) unlike what they posted so pls beware. - Yan CHong Kong, China882 contributionsVery good for beginnersMost of my family members learn to ski in this beautiful resort. The gentle slopes at Iimori are perfect for the beginners. There is a ski school, with many English speaking coaches. Chinese speaking coaches are also available. The coaching fee is expensive but worthwhile. There is a good choice of restaurants. Nothing very luxurious but good enough to support a day in the snow.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 February 2024

Went during the week after Christmas and amounts of snow in the Hakuba area were not great. Anyhow we drove over to Goryu and actually did full days there as there was more snow there. The higher areas are quite nice and not over crowded for medium-advanced skiers. There are also some beginners slopes up there but the lift lines can be a little long. The lower areas are very good for beginners with not very steep slopes and wider areas for turning, they were is pretty good shape despite the snow shortage. Overall a pretty good area. An added benefit is that it is easy to ski over to Hakuba 47 and use those slopes as well to get some variation.

This was my first time snowboarding and some of the mountains had closed early because of COVID19 and the season not having too much snow, which we thought we might get. However, Goryu did not disappoint. Enough powder and snow to learn on, great for beginners and there were heaps of snow schools around to teach you if you needed it.
We stayed at gondola apartments so it is a fair way away, but escal plaza has heaps in it to eat and drink and is worth the little drive

I have been to Goryu Tomi Ski Resort before, but this was my first time in Goryu in summer.
After getting off at the Azumino (formerly Toyoshina) IC on the Nagano Expressway, instead of heading towards Route 148, which has many traffic lights, go straight and it is comfortable to drive on the embankment road along the Takase River, called the Northern Alps Panorama Road. In the second half, head north on the national road, turn left at the Hakuba Goryu entrance, and you will soon arrive at Escal Plaza.
From Toomi Station, take the Telecabin gondola (8 minutes), which also carries skiers, to Alps-daira Station, which is at an altitude of 1,515m. Then, transfer to the Alps Panorama Pair Lift and get off at the last stop, where you should be able to see Mt. Goryu as well as the Hakuba Sanzan mountains, but unfortunately it was foggy...
Nevertheless, from a place where you can see Hakuba Village below, you can leisurely stroll through the alpine botanical garden and walk down.
There is also a sign for Makino Plants, which is associated with Dr. Tomitaro Makino, and we enjoyed the beautiful sight of various alpine plants such as willow herb and edelweiss. Perhaps if we had gone a little earlier in July there would have been even more flowers to delight the eye, but I was thrilled to see that dicentra, known as the queen of alpine plants, including the white ones, were still around.

We visited this resort in Jan 2023 and had a great time skiing as a family. The resort offers a range of ski runs of varying difficulties - from Green runs through to Double black diamond. What we didn’t realise is that the Goryu resort and Hakuba 47 resort are actually on the same mountain and you can ski between the two by taking lifts up the mountain and changing at the top.

Been to Hakuba a couple of times. Goryu and Hakuba 47 probably my favourites. The other slopes to the east of the mountain are excellent too but more likely have lift closures and seems to get less snow. For really good reliable snow, I’d stick to these two, especially if your visit is short.

Our first time in Hakuba and the transportation was very convenient.
We travelled from Happo-one to Hakuba 47. From Hakuba 47, there was two shuttles to Goryu and Iimori snow resorts.
Goryu has night skiing available. The ramen restaurant was still open. At the bottom of the slopes, there is a hot dog stand. At the entrance of Goryu, there’s a crepe station.
Be sure to check the timing of the night shuttle and return your ski lift pass for your deposit.

This was my favourite mountain we went to in the hakuba valley. Coupled with happo 47, it had a good mix of terrain, and there's also a park for those who like to hit rails, jumps and boxes.
There was never a long line for the goryu gondola and it took you a lot higher than the Happo 47 gondola.
Nice long groomed runs, some fun cat tracks and no long lift lines.

Hakuba Goryu/ Hakuba 47/ Happo-one SKi Resorts
This December, we are planning to stay in Nagano, Hakuba. Is there a shuttle bus that will run within these resorts?
Going to Goryu Resort, shall we go to Nagano station first to take a bus going there? What bus?
Thank you.

What is there for non-skiers to do in the area? We are going in March, but my wife doesn't want to ski
Written 8 February 2017
In the immediate area Hakuba Goyru there is a temple and trail to walk. Ease of this will be determined by how much snow remains. Hakuba Happo is main area a short shuttle bus away. There are a number of Onsen's to visit (traditional Japanese bathing). Further afield there is an easy day trip to Snow Monkey's at Jigokudani. Proximity to local rail line opens up other options such as Matsumoto which has reputedly the best Castle on the main island. Again temples and gardens will feature strongly in Matsumoto. At Goyru, non skiers can catch cable car to top of mountain for views, food and drink.

We will be arriving on 22 dec. would like to know if there are enough snow to ski already? We still have an option to change to our destination to Gala Yuzuwa? Should we?
Thanks in advance.

How far is it from Hakuba 47 to Goryu and Happoone? Can you ski between them or how long does the shuttle bus take? Looking for a base for 2 weeks for a group of 8 including 3 intermediate-advanced skiiers and boarders, with 3 expert boarders, and 2 weaker skiiers. (previously skiied Canada, Italy, Japan, NZ).
Main priority is the skiing/boarding so efficient lift systems and great long runs. Don't want to spend lots of time on a bus. Would we be better having a week at Goryu then a week at Happoone?
Also we need to self cater (due to gluten allergy). Are there any supermarkets in any of these resorts? Thankyou for any comments.

47 and Goryu are effectively the same resort, you can't ski from either to Happo One - q10 minute free shuttle.
The best place to base yourself is definately Happo. Easy to get to all resorts rom there and HappoOne is generally a walk to lifts from most places you might stay in Happo.
Plenty of supermarkets all pretty cheap compared to what you would expect to pay in a ski resort having come from Australia.
likewise in regard to Yan C's comment anout the shuttle St this time of year I would also add I simply won't be spending the money to go there this later in the season unless there is no choice, we are only three weeks off season close.
Whatever you decide it's an awesome place and great skiing. Don't worry about lift queues they basically don't exist fro most of the season!
