Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We got there by tour bus. It's a surprisingly easy walk up to the top. There are stairs and also nicely paved walkway. Nicely maintained. There is no entrance fee required. Just enjoy the nature. I am not a person who exercise regularly but still find it not an issue to walk for 45 minutes. Along the way, there is a nice breeze and the scenery is just magnificent. Nice blue sea and blue sky. This place sort of remind me a bit like flower pot island in Tobermory ( Ontario, Canada )
As always, washrooms are extremely clean even in the wilderness. Something I am very impressed with places in Japan.

Easily accessible by car. The day was sunny and clear when we were there so the view was breathtaking! Went there at the beginning of October so the place was not crowded. Round it off with a fantastic bowl of sea urchin ramen at the small restaurant just next to the car park!. Definitely worth a visit. Take in Cape Kamui and Ogon as well if you are driving.

Cape Shakotan is accessible by bus however make sure you time your visit properly so you don't have to wait for the next bus (may be 1.5 hours later!!)

There's a tunnel at the entrance and you can go down the stairs to get to the beach. It was very beautiful. There's also a hiking path, however it didn't seem like it was used much as there were overgrown grass which made me a bit uncomfortable as I was doing it alone. Regardless it was very scenic and glad I did it!

If you plan to do the hike, try to go with at least one other person. I went solo and got very freaked out when an animal moved in the overgrown bushes...could have been a fox or a bear...! Do bring a bear bell.

A 30 minute drive from Cape Kamui, and only very slightly off the main road direct to Sapporo, you can access the pedestrian tunnel to the Shakotan view point. Basic facilities are available and paths to higher viewpoints start from the same carpark. In total a 45-minute detour from the direct route between Kamui and Sapporo.

We went for a car-ride from Otaru. It was an easy drive and we stopped over at Ogon Misaki, 黄金岬, before arriving here.
We took the walk from the cape right all the way, going east, hugging the hilly coastline. At one time, the trail became covered with the shrubs and the going seemed uncertain. We finally reached the observation deck, and took a rest here, overlooking the beautiful seascape.
It took us about 1 hour plus to go and return from this eastern most point !

This is also known as 島武意海岸 Shimamui Coast. After walking through a short and dark tunnel, a beautiful scenic view appeared. Shades of blue clear water seen from the top of the cape. Steps leading down to the rocky coast is a big hurdle before you can enjoy the spot below. After you reach the rocky "ground", please spend good time there as the way back UP is not friendly at all. One experience is enough. No wonder not many people around. Not for the faint hearted and weak knees.

Most of the people must like Hokkaido in winter but i prefer green season. Because you can see this kind of beautiful nature creation.
