After a few days in Sapporo, consider going to the Shakotan peninsula to visit Cape Kamui. Cape Kamui is rightly beautiful on a good day and worth a small detour together with a Yoichi whisky distillery visit. In my honest opinion, their are more beautiful...More

One of the highlights of our trip, Shakotan was breathtaking. Remember to check the weather forecast the day before as the blue waters of Shakotan look their best on a sunny day!

We didn't go with a tour company. We hired a car from Nippon car rental (about $130 for two days) and drove ourselves. The roads are all very easy and the relevant signs are in English. Regards
