We visited Shirakawago as a part of a guided tour and we were very grateful to have visited there. We stayed at the community for 2 hours and it is very unique and tranquil. We particularly recommend to go to the observatory deck as you can see the whole community with green scenery. Great spot for photoshoots and buying souvenirs.... More

Good spot to see Shirakawago village and 15-20 min walking up the mountain from the village. The view spot has many parking spaces for tourism bus and private vehicles.

I visited this place as part of a guided tour. From the observation deck, I had an awesome view of the village houses against the mountain backdrop. A great place for photoshoots and selfies. As I came here during late spring, the scenery were green and beautiful. Also enjoyed the cool fresh air at this vantage point. There is also... More

It's not necessary to wait until winter for light up festival. Just drive up to the view point. It's so beautiful even in rain. I arrive there around 5 PM and nobody was there already. All shop were closed and tourists all gone. Good for me, I spent time at the viewpoint as long as I wanted.

It's a small climb from the main road, but absolutely worth it. The views over the village are stunning (as is the whole area).

Come up here to get a lovely view of the village. It is a 15-20 minute walk uphill, maybe not for the elderly or ones who have mobility issues (perhaps joining a tour might be good as the tour buses take you up there). It was a bit hazy when we went but maybe it is clearer on other days.... More

We drove up the mountain. The view down was beautiful. The thatched rood homes are impressive. The fact that they put the roof on in one day is unbelievable to me.

If you eat lots like us on holidays then you probably want to walk lots too. This short up skill (gentle incline, about 20 minutes) up to the observatory is directly connected with the main area of shirawagako and it a definite must see on your trip. Views are amazing and there are a couple of small shops at the... More
