Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is a 15mins or so walk uphill to this observatory. There is a sitting area which you can take in the great view of the whole village and a photo-taking services (1 small photo for free but you need to pay if you want a larger version). There are cafes and souvenir shops there.

This is THE place to come if you want a fantastic view of Shirakawago. It's a short but steep hike from the village itself but all the effort is worth it when you see the view from the top which is incredible. There's a couple of cafes to buy drinks and food and a spot in which you can have a professional photo taken with the village in the background. If you're fit enough to come up here then I guarantee you won't regret it when you see the vista in front of your eyes.

The perfect viewpoint. If snowy walk up the roadway as the steps are inaccessible. No reason not to stop here for a few minutes.

THE photo spot for the village.
Shuttle bus goes up there - takes 10 mins, walk down takes 20 mins (different shorter route)
Private parking on the hill (for about 50 cars?)

Nice to buy food or drink and then you can sit on the left of the photo taking spot, under the tree and look down at the scene peacefully.
Staff take a free photo of visitors - which you can get at the desk minutes later - it is a tiny 1/4 of a postcard picture - and then choose to pay to have the same pic big size.

This is a nice spot to taking the photo for the whole Shirakawago village. You may use the public transport or drive up by your own.

a MUST see when in Shirawaka-go! The view is amazing and the walk isn't too tough. After the day trip tourists leave or before in the morning it is extremely special up there!

A short climb up a slope from the main village to this spot. The climb itself is quite picturesque during winter with snow falling from trees, creating a very romantic atmosphere. Once you reach the top, the scenery is breathtaking as you can look over the entire village. While the adults are busy taking photos, children could build snowmen here.

This place gives a vantage view of Ogimachi, which is good for a photo op. There is a restaurant and a gift shop up here, and hence, teeming with people, all waiting for a go at the view and the requisite photo. My day-trip by bus brought me here and it was ok. Otherwise, I am not sure if I will recommend it.

It is not a hard walk up to this place and the path is very well signposted from the bottom of he village.
There’s a big souvenir shop and lots of parking places on top
There’s also a spot where you can have your photo taken by the resident photographer for a price. We saw many people queuing up for this
The view form the top is definitely worth the walk up there
