Be prepared for a bit of a drive which is also enjoyable its quite confusing as there are signs all over the place saying miraflor on them but i would reccomend asking a local for the waterfall and swimming hole great little spot to relax and cool down.

If you really want to see how Nicaraguans live, then this is the true experience. Arriving in Esteli and not really sure what to do, I headed to Tree Huggers who helpfully organised my stay for 3 nights in Miraflor. It is a must to spend at least one night if not more to get the real experience of how... More

We love nature, we are avid hikers, so we thought this would be a sure bet for us. We don't understand the hype. There was a mix up when we arrived with our booking. We were not expected. However the family hosting us whipped us up a breakfast and lunch and we did not know anything was amiss until we... More

We spent three nights and four days in the Miraflor Reserve, all arranged very well by Treehuggers Tours. We stayed in all three zones in homestays. Take as little as possible with you but take some warm clothing. We took long pants and long-sleeved shirts and a sweatshirt but a scarf for my neck would have been nice for evenings.... More

Spending a day hiking the dusty roads and visiting a cool, refreshing waterfall was a great way to spend a day. It is quite remote, so you will need a car suitable for rough roads and/or a driver with one. After seeing the local homes and Fincas along the way, it was a joy to soak our feet or swim... More

A welll organised and great fun 3 nights spent in Miraflor thanks to Nelson and Tree Huggers in Esteli. We especially want to recommend Finca La Ilusion in the mid level village of Sontule, the couple we stayed with were incredibly welcoming and we enjoyed mikling the cow, making tortillas, roasting our own coffee, walks through the forest and agricultural... Beautiful area, great hiking and birdwatching as well as a close up of rural Nicaraguan life. Can be cold and wet (it is a cloud forest) so bring warm clothes and a rainjacket . Most housing is through homestays - you can book through UCA Miraflor or TreeHuggers in Esteli.

The bus for the reserve leaves at about 5:45 AM. Ouch. After a bone jarring one hour ride over a miserable road, the bus arrived at Coyolito, where I got off. I was only interested in hiking and a day trip. Be sure to hire a guide for $15 as only someone with local knowledge will be able to find... More

Spending at least a night in Miraflor in a family (we can highly recommend Ojo de Agua in La Labranzas) is a fantastic experience. With a horseback riding day to explore the humid and intermediate zones and a hiking day in the dry one, we took our time to enjoy the area and exchange with the locals.

We stayed for three nights with the family of Marlon y Mayra (both teachers) at their finca 'el paraiso' in El Sontule (Miraflor). It was wonderful, heartwarming really to experience the family and community-life! The highest recommendations for this family, very welcoming and patient! Marlon speaks English very well, very helpful since we didn't speak Spanish that well. Beautiful surroundings... More
