This is a beautiful place to walk. See working locks in action, have a hot drink in one of pubs on any of the routes you take. This is a great way to enjoy the countryside.

I live near the locks. They are a flight of 16 locks. Built by Samuel Oldkniw over 200 years ago to transport his cotton and lime. The walk is very nice and easily done with children. Great engineering feat, interesting history and walking, local park with attractions for children. Marple itself is a lovely town. It is an attraction you never tire off. Just beyond... More

This is really worth a visit. Railway, canal and river meet in a staggering piece of Victorian grandeur. Huge viaducts tower over the River Goyt. Prepare to be impressed.
