The gardens are the star. The different ‘rooms’ provide real variety complimented by the buildings within the site. Only a part of the house is open to the public, for me the furniture by Rupert Williamson was the major attraction. At the bottom of the...More

Visited this wonderful garden for the second time today, and considering the extremely hot dry weather of late, it was just as beautiful as our first visit in 2015. We love the 'shaggy' borders, crammed with all manner of colours and textures, including wild flowers...More

How do they manage to keep these oceans of flowers alive and shining with temperatures well in the 30's? We were blown away by color and architecture. Mainly cottage style gardens of the most beautiful kind, but also suprisingly creative with pottery and exotic plants....More

Wanted to visit for years. I’m glad I came but can’t help thinking that I should have been more awestruck other than slightly underwhelmed. You pay at the rather “tatty” admission hut before joining the path to the house and gardens. Either side of the...More

Yes, Rye is a little distance away but would be an exceptionally pretty and historic choice. I have not stayed there but the food and ambience at The Bear Hotel are excellent.
