We returned to the Snow Monkey Park after staying in Yudanaka (Seifuso guest house - highly recommended, the food & onsen were amazing) two years ago at the same time of year. Last time it was snowing for the weekend & the whole town & park were white. This time there was no snow on the ground & just a... More

What better way to spend a day than watching monkeys fight and play? Skip the Roman "museum" at the entrance. More like an art gallery.

We took a bus from the Nagano train station, bus 23/24, it took 45 mins to arrived at the Park entrance where one would need to hike 30-40 mins: around 1.8km to the Park, where the monkeys are located. Along the way it's a wonderful experience as one is filled with pine trees and beautiful landscapes. Once arrived, the place... More

Amazing experience. Wild monkeys running around among tourist. I was cold (dress in layers!) and you'd want hiking boots because you will get muddy in the walking path. Nagano is only 1.5 hour from Tokyo and it's worth a day trip just to visit this place!

Some major works on the pathway fro entry to park and all the way up created a very mushy walk. When we got to the hot springs we were very happy to watch the antics and family life of the Monkeys. The Japanese Park Managers are to be congratulated on the way they have managed the area. Superb views of... More

Beautiful forest and cool little spot with monkeys but much smaller than I expected (one pool and another area with a flowing spring). If I were to go back, I'd spend more time walking in the forest as it was lovely.

The entry was under construction so took the high road in which meant a bit of a hike in the mud...as it had snowed the previous night the pathway head turned to slushy...all part of the adventure! We arrived to find the boss monkey holding court in the hot spring. Other monkeys just sat on the edge dipping their hands... More

was there yesterday , make sure you have footwear that can handle the muddy walk, hard place to get to from Tokyo , 1 train , 1 metro, 1 bus and a 30min walk, make sure you get there before 3pm as light starts going about 3.30pm, park shuts at 4pm allow an extra hour on your expectations trust me....... The monkey park is about hour walk from Yudanaka station or your can catch a bus. The monkeys are very playful and love chilling in the hot pools and preening themselves. You can get as close as you like (short of getting bitten) highly recommend.
