One word: Incredible!!!!! Fantastic experience. I highly recommend it. There was a lot of tourists around but manageable. The monkeys are adorable. You can see them retreat into the trees late afternoon. There's about 200 of them. It's about a 30 minute walk from the parking lot to the the monkeys. Beautiful walk. Well worth it.

Must take a bus from Nagano station, don't even attempt to take a cab, starting at 12,000yen one way....buy the monkey pass includes transport and admission. Once the bus drives you about 40 min, you walk about 2 km. It's not an easy hike, especially if it's raining or snowing, as it's very very slippery up hill. One you get... More

If you've never done it before, go, experience. It is a great experience, don't mess with the monkeys , they are ok until you get too close! Have fun . Expect a walk from the bus/parking lot 10 minutes and than 40 minutes walk up, more walk inside and all the way back down, not suitable for strollers or wheelchair

We were staying in Shiga Kogen so we took advantage of the tourism promotion for bussing to the Monkey park (¥1,000 round trip for adults). Bussing to/from Shiga Kogen to the Monkey Park: we bought the tickets from the front desk of our hotel and then went out to catch the next bus. All busses stop at Hasuike, and they... More

This is a fantastic site to see in the Nagano region. There is a 2km walk from the parking area up to the Snow Monkey habitat. It's very flat and a nice walk through the forest. I did it in running shoes in the middle of February with no issues. Once you're up there, the Monkeys do roam freely but... More

Such a treat to get to see these gorgeous animals up close and personal. I'm always a bit concerned about "animal parks" and avoid zoo's, but these little critters are doing their own thing and quite happy to get on with their own business as you walk up to and around the hot spring area. Of course there are still... More

To be realistic, it's not a huge onsen for the Monkeys, but just the site of the monkeys in nature, the running stream, small waterfall it was a nice site to see. I think if you are overly expecting a huge forest filled with monkeys you might get disappointed. But don't get me wrong, there are plenty to see. I... More

Yes there was monkey everywhere, but the park ranger or staff were feeding the monkey. They throw these seeds or nuts onto the snow which attract the monkey to come, which to me is messing around with the feeding habitat of the monkey. Is like putting a piece of meat in the middle of the african jungle to attract the... More

This is by far one of the greatest things we've ever experience. To be able to wander and see the monkeys in their own habitat just playing and ignoring humans was insane. They literally ignored us being there other then a view posey monkeys. So scenic and beautiful. Is a long walk which is slightly dangerous in the snow so... More
