Friendly ski lift helpers three times to the top. Very beautiful natural viewing of the pine trees, mountain terrain and snow all over! Sipping tasty and warming coffee and tea with toasted crumpets slathered with delicious locally made jams and jellies or savory tomato and cheese, mmmmm good! Try skiing or snowboarding down the slopes. Another great option which we... More

We ate lunch at the lodge. Their katsu curry was so delicious! Then we caught the ski lift to the very top of the mountain. We relaxed at the crumpet restaurant. The crumpets and coffee were very good. The scenery was beautiful. You could see all the snow top mountain surrounding Nagano. It was spectacular! We got down the mountain... More

Like most places if you get cold temp and snow it would be awesome. But bring supplies! Very limited in what you can get. The convenience store if you can find one are not convenient. The hotels will sell you beer so you just pay a little more. The skiing is more intermediate and beginner. Lots of big groomer tracks.... More

We were lucky to be there when it snowed 3 days out of 4! The mountain is massive; reminded us of the Canyons in SLC. There are a variety of runs from beginners to advance. The slopes are mainly quiet as it seems only locals and a few tourists go here. From what others told us, is that due to... More

We visited Shiga Kogen after staying in Shibu Onsen. We have two younger children, who are beginner skiers so we chose a section of the mountain appropriate for them. The drive was longer than we expected and the process to rent equipment took some time but we got to enjoy some wonderful snow and easily accessible trails. Staff were polite.... More

This ski area is massive! Like too big to do all the runs in 2 days. Wish I had more time here. Ideally, 3-7 days. Loads of runs to choose from for beginners, intermediate, and expert. Quite quiet here on weekdays in late January. No crowds, no lines. My only complaint was the rental shop is quite far from the... More

This is one of Japan's best ski resorts. About 4 hours out of Tokyo by the Bullet train, bus then taxi or share I mini bus from Tokyo airport to your hotel door. This is Japan's largest ski area. Yes it is huge. About 80% you can ski to by inter linked ski tows which is all covered on the one... More

Shiga kogen resort is huge!!! Lots of different places to ski. I found the runs to VERY short compared to Canadian ski resorts and the lifts are really slow. Felt like we spent more time on the lifts than the runs. The runs have names but in Japanese. Normally they have directions to the resorts on the big yellow signs.... More

It's not Austria or Whistler but it is a very good skiing area. A lot of different ski slopes and great views on the surrounding. Only one thing: public transport is only once per hour.

Although the accommodations and night life were lacking at the Prince hotels and in Ichinose in general, the access to all the ski areas and terrain and the frequent heavy snowfalls allowed us to find some great powder during our stay from 15 - 21 Feb. We also opted to rent skis (rather than bring ours over from Canada) and... More
