Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest...

Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest distilleries in the world.

One of the few remaining independent distilleries, Penderyn takes its name from the old Welsh village in which it is located and nestles in the foothills of the ancient Brecon Beacons mountain range.

The Brecon Beacons National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty famed for its breathtaking scenery, open moorland, clear rivers and tumultuous waterfalls.

Members of the public can enjoy a distillery tour, take a journey through the history of single malt whisky making in Wales, and understand the distilling process at first hand.

On arrival you will be greeted by your tour guide and taken through to the exhibition area where you can browse at your leisure and learn for yourself the history of whisky making in Wales as well as more general Welsh history.

Watch the short video about how Penderyn first started, and how it has developed since its launch in 2004.

Your guide will then join you and take you through to the next section where you will be able to:

*View the Barley, Malt Bins, Grist Mill, Mash Tun and Fermenters that produce the unique Penderyn Malted Barley Wash.

*View the Single Pot Stills at Penderyn Distillery that were designed by Dr. David Faraday, a descendant of famous physicist Sir Michael Faraday. You can also view the more traditional brand new Double Pot Stills. If distillations are in process you will be able to see the spirit being drawn into the spirit safe. *See the barrel display area when your guide will describe how the different expressions of Penderyn whisky are matured and talk you through the various stages of the maturation process. *Learn about the other products - Merlyn Cream Liqueur, Brecon Five Vodka and Brecon Special Reserve Gin. Feel and smell the botanicals that are used to make Brecon Special Reserve Gin. *Visit the tasting room and sample the products - Penderyn Single Malt Whisky, Brecon Five Vodka, Brecon Gin and Merlyn Cream Liqueur.

*Browse the retail shop for Penderyn Spirits and merchandise.

I arrived with my nephew to take the 12:00 tour on 30th November, I had pre paid our tour and was sent straight into the waiting area, by a friendly member of staff. We were about 10mins early but didn't mind the wait, as lots to read up on about Penderyn, and a little about the local area. 6 in... More

Received a Gift Voucher for a Master Class for my birthday. Yes I do enjoy a drop or two of whisky, mainly scotch or bourbon. Welsh whisky was new to me. Not any more! The Master class lasted for about 2 1/2 hours including a presentation on the hsitory of whisky in Wales and how it was made. The afternoon... More

We went on this tour because we had sampled their products the night before . Enjoyed the tour very much . Our tour guide apologised as she was quite new to the job . She was lovely charming and thoughtful and we took her into our hearts. Everything here smacks of professionalism and design. The products are extremely well packaged... More

Had occasion to visit the distillery for work and was given a tour. The staff there were informative and friendly and the tour was great. Whilst I was there the shop was doing a brisk business and there were plenty of ideas for Christmas presents. It's a little out of the way but well worth a visit.

We have been here before but things have changed and there is a walkway running around the upper part of the stills. When you arrive you are shown into the room where it shows where the water comes from the the history of the distillery. We were then taken into the distillery, a lovely smell welcomed you from the stills... More

Attended the masterclass session on Sunday 13/11/16 - excellent and very informative class run by Ray - learned a lot about whisky and the class was followed by a tour of the distillery to observe the process and finally a session in the bar. Thoroughly recommend this for any whisky lover.

Thank Ron C
