Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest distilleries in the world.

One of the few remaining independent distilleries, Penderyn takes its name from the old Welsh village in which it is located and nestles in the foothills of the ancient Brecon Beacons mountain range.

The Brecon Beacons National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty famed for its breathtaking scenery, open moorland, clear rivers and tumultuous waterfalls.

Members of the public can enjoy a distillery tour, take a journey through the history of single malt whisky making in Wales, and understand the distilling process at first hand.

On arrival you will be greeted by your tour guide and taken through to the exhibition area where you can browse at your leisure and learn for yourself the history of whisky making in Wales as well as more general Welsh history.

Watch the short video about how Penderyn first started, and how it has developed since its launch in 2004.

Your guide will then join you and take you through to the next section where you will be able to:

*View the Barley, Malt Bins, Grist Mill, Mash Tun and Fermenters that produce the unique Penderyn Malted Barley Wash.

*View the Single Pot Stills at Penderyn Distillery that were designed by Dr. David Faraday, a descendant of famous physicist Sir Michael Faraday. You can also view the more traditional brand new Double Pot Stills. If distillations are in process you will be able to see the spirit being drawn into the spirit safe. *See the barrel display area when your guide will describe how the different expressions of Penderyn whisky are matured and talk you through the various stages of the maturation process. *Learn about the other products - Merlyn Cream Liqueur, Brecon Five Vodka and Brecon Special Reserve Gin. Feel and smell the botanicals that are used to make Brecon Special Reserve Gin. *Visit the tasting room and sample the products - Penderyn Single Malt Whisky, Brecon Five Vodka, Brecon Gin and Merlyn Cream Liqueur.

*Browse the retail shop for Penderyn Spirits and merchandise.

Hubby and I spent a lovely afternoon at the Penderyn Distillery yesterday taking part in the Whisky Masterclass. Our programme leader and tour guide Ray was fantastic - the presentation was informative and entertaining and the atmosphere most convivial! Went yesterday with a friend and had a very warm welcome, an interesting introduction in the reception area by video followed by an excellent tour covering all aspects of the brewing and distilling processes. Ray was an outstanding tour guide giving us lots of details and willingly answering all our questions. The facilities are in modern buildings and the tour... More

Penderyn provides a bookable 1 hour tour of the distillery where the famous Welsh whisky is produced followed by a tasting of some of the company's products - or a take home miniature for drivers. At £8.50 per head (price at New Year 2017), it represents good value for money as well as being an interesting hour's alternative to the... More

I took my Dad for his birthday on a tour. The tour was informative, relaxed and interesting, plus to time (about an hour). The tasting was as expected (good) with two tasters each. The availability of miniature bottles to take away for those driving was a nice touch. I did comment that having a '1 minute guide' to how whisky... More

My son bought me a distillery master class as a Christmas present which we took today. The staff at Penderyn were really helpful when I booked the tour which was excellent. The Distillery Manager Laura took our Master class and was superb. This was followed by the tour and tasting which gave us chance to sample the whole range. This... More

I arrived with my nephew to take the 12:00 tour on 30th November, I had pre paid our tour and was sent straight into the waiting area, by a friendly member of staff. We were about 10mins early but didn't mind the wait, as lots to read up on about Penderyn, and a little about the local area. 6 in... More
