We started in Joigny. We used Locaboat bicycles to cycle to the local supermarket to stock up on provisions. First night was Auxerre which was busy but we rafted up Ok. From then on the canal was quite with easy mooring. Going into empty locks and climbing up a muddy ladder with the line was not a lot of fun... More

We (two couples) had a wonderful trip on the Yonne River and Canal du Nivernais for 11 days in September 2016, on a Le Boat Magnifique. The Magnifique was well-equipped and comfortable for four people, but would be cramped with the full capacity of eight. We set out from Migennes on the only rainy day of our trip; fortunately the... Our second experience in French canals with Locaboat and it was fabulous once again. The Canal du Nivernais is certainly scenic. We were advised to do the Canal du Midi first, which we did, and the advice was good. The Nivernias has some very narrow stretches and narrow, low bridges to steer through. As the Penichettes have very poor steering,... More

Started in Joigny where we spent the first night and enjoyed the town market on Saturday morning then off. Quite a long way to next stop at Auxerre where we were lucky to get a mooring opposite the cathedral without rafting up. Another longish day to a pleasant quiet pontoon at Mailly la ville. Thereafter shorter days cruising through beautiful... More

Our boat was unable to be locked. We had several hose connection but NONE that fitted so getting water each day was a trial. The boat broke down which held us up and we had our parasol stolen. It was 40 edges so we could not sit outside and although we biked around the next 4 villages we couldn't not... More

A group of 13 friends and family chartered the boat and cruised the Canal du Nivernais on the hotel barge, Luciole. we had planned this trip for a long time and were not disappointed. We had a spectacular time although the weather was unbearably hot, in the high 90s. The food was superb, prepared by Chef Jade. We tasted and... More

We did a week-long cruise on the Canal du Nivernais and L'Yonne from Tannay to Migennes. Having done our research, we knew what to expect and were not disappointed. Yes, it rained one day -- we had rain gear. Yes, some towns had few (or no open) dining or shopping choices, but we stocked for that possibility. Still, we had... More

We traveled as a family with two older parents. The weather was outstanding 30 degrees most days. The canal and river are spectacular meandering through small hamlets and small towns. There are plenty of good moorings available for a small fee average 10 euros with showers electric hook up and water. There is an abundance of good restaurants and bars... More
