About
Viña Cobos is the inspired vision of a dreamer who one day undertook the challenge of producing great Argentine red wine that would be on par with the best-known wines of the world. From that moment, Paul Hobbs started to make noble wines of superior quality, placing Malbec and Argentina on stage with the world's greatest wine producers.

We are members of Paul Hobbs wines in California and have been buying his wines for 20 years. He makes my fav Pinot Noir. ( Hyde Vineyard), so I wanted to visit his Argentina Winery. There was a hefty surcharge of approx $200 US for the 2 of us to do this tasting. Actually called the California facility to see if we could have a discount as we had been members in California for so long and they said they were not a part of the Argentine site. When we arrived I explained to our guide what had happened and she did upgrade 2 of the wines for us. We arrived a few minutes late and so we didn’t get a tour of the cellars/facility. We had a very nice tasting with paired bites. There were 5 wines.

Exceptional visit. Florencia was very nice and attentive. Perfect wine selection for the tasting, matching with good cheese and prosciutto. Best tour I have done in Mendoza. Every detail is carefully considered. Personalized. Great wines. They do not rely only on their name their hospitality is beyond fantastic. Worth it every penny spent there. I would recommend it and go back.

I would like to begin with how beautiful the architecture and the design are for this bodega. My husband and I were helped by Agustin, who was polite, informative, and patient. It was a private tasting downstairs in the caves, which came along with the wine tasting that I chose, I forgot the name of it, but it was the top-tier wines. My husband chose the middle Tear of the available tastings. The wine was one of the best wines we have ever tried, and the chef prepared small bites to go with each glass which completely enhanced the experienced to be even better. The wine alone and Agustin’s attention and hospitality would have also been enough, but the food just made it , incredible. This is definitely now he must return to, every time we go back to Mendoza. Great job Vina Cobos.

This is a beautiful winery, but their prices are simply crazy. This is a good wine but not for 300 usd...we paid almost 100 usd for the tasting which was nice, they even serve delicious snacks with the wine but I thought it was way too expensive.

We are big fans of Cobos wines....being one of the very best in Argentina (Mendoza region). We had a degustation at 11 am, and due to the high quantity of tourists, it started later, which meant that we arrived late to our other visits too.
The wines we tried were not the top of their list, but they were absolutely great! We loved what we had to drink for sure! Speaking about the experience itself, we had no visit, it was just degustation, and it was really with almost no explanation...maybe it was because the place was packed of people and they couldn't dedicate each group their time....
Hightly recommend their wines, and maybe to go on their first slot!

The service is fantastic in the winery as they seated us with another group for a tasting and brought out some food to go with the wine. The wines were very good. They gave a good tour, but the tour was nothing too exciting and just showed the different places they made the wine.
Unfortunately when looking to purchase wines from the winery afterward the prices they offered for the wines were very similar to the prices of the same wines you can purchase in the U.S. So if you are looking to bring some wine back home that you can get a better deal on at the winery, I would look to purchase wines from other wineries and just purchase the Cobos wines when you return to the U.S.

First, let me start by saying that my girlfriend and I formed a prejudice against Viña Cobos early on, when we read some of the negative reviews here on tripadvisor and when we saw the prices of their tastings (they are the most expensive we found in Mendoza). But I have considerable experience with wine and I knew that Viña Cobos produces some of the very best wines in all of Argentina, so we decided we really should go there.
I started to exchange emails with the hospitality staff, trying to find out more about our options for a visit, and both Marisa and Carolina surprised me not only with their professionalism but with their warmth and humanity. That wasn't what I was expecting at all. I was curious whether there were any older vintages of their wines available for purchase at the winery, and Marisa sent me a list of those available and told me there would be a 30% discount if we purchased one and drank it at the winery. That was the highest discount on the purchase of a bottle I had found at any winery in Mendoza, and the discount made it possible for my girlfriend and I to afford to buy the specific bottle we had wanted to try (the 2011 Cobos Malbec). We also selected one of the mid-level tastings, the comparative malbec one, so we would be able to compare the various malbecs the winery produces at different price points and from the different vineyards.
Even though my communication with Marisa and Carolina had helped alleviate many of my fears, I admit I was still skeptical about Viña Cobos prior to our visit. And then Marisa greeted us when we arrived (the only time anyone at a winery in Mendoza actually came out to the car to greet us upon our arrival), and I started to feel differently. She was kind and gracious and immediately put us at ease. She had us sit down in the beautiful tasting room (we had arrived early) and brought us coffee and water and made us feel at home.
Soon after that, Pablo came out and sat down with us and started telling us about the winery. We liked him immediately. He led us over to where the entire line of Viña Cobos wines was arranged on a table, and he patiently and expertly explained the differences between the various lines and also the effects of the different terroirs on the different wines within each line.
Then he had us sit down and he led us through the tasting we had selected. It started innocuously enough, with the winery's least expensive malbec (called Felino, which we liked very much), but it soon got a little crazy. First off, we noticed that this was no ordinary tasting. Pablo poured us nice, big, hearty glasses of wine, enough for us to truly enjoy the wines and understand the differences between them. He brought us a plate of cheese and crackers (the cheese was very nice) so we could cleanse our palates between wines, and he explained even further the differences between the wines and answered completely and thoughtfully any questions we had.
The wines just got more and more impressive as we moved up the line, and Pablo was incredibly attentive to our needs. When he saw that we liked the cheese from the plate of cheese and crackers, he immediately brought us more and also added a different one for us to try. And when we reached the point where we were going to try the top wine included as part of the tasting we had purchased, he added another glass to the row in front of us and had us try TWO wines from that line, instead of just the one we were expecting. They were surprisingly different from each other and both were absolutely delicious.
And then he brought out the bottle we had purchased, the 2011 Cobos Malbec, and he was as excited to tell us about it and to pour it for us as we were to try it! What a warm and gracious guy. We absolutely loved the wine, to the degree that we were at a loss for words. We were busy laughing giddily like schoolchildren, unsure how to process the experience, when Marisa brought out two dishes of truffles! She explained to us exactly how to best enjoy them with the wine, and we tried to act rationally when we did so. That proved to be impossible.
So at this point, we still had wine in all of our glasses (and Pablo had left all the bottles on the table with us, so we could try more of whichever one we wanted), we were letting the truffles and the top Cobos Malbec meld intoxicatingly in our mouths, and Pablo asked innocently if we might like to try a cabernet sauvignon, since up to that point we had only tried malbecs. We thanked him and said we would enjoy that, and then went back to being overwhelmed by the truffles and all the amazing wine still in front of us. We figured he would have us try the cabernet from the mid-level Bramare Appellation line or maybe, if we were lucky, the even more amazing Bramare Marchiori line. We were wrong. Instead, he brought out the Volturno! We had forgotten it was 97% cabernet sauvignon (something he'd told us during his explanation of the various Viña Cobos lines). He poured us a big glass each and we were overwhelmed. It was as amazing as the top Cobos Malbec we had purchased, but remarkably different and so beautiful in its own way.
By this point we had been at the winery for some time, and Pablo felt terrible but asked if we would mind moving to a more casual area in another part of the room. (The tasting room is not large and they had some corporate clients coming.) We were even more comfortable there, so it was definitely no problem for us! We had finished the tasting, but still had plenty of wine in the bottle we had purchased and our glasses of Volturno, so we were looking forward to relaxing and enjoying them. Guess what? We had underestimated Viña Cobos, and Pablo, yet again. As soon as we moved (Pablo helped us move everything), he brought us a basket of freshly-made bread and a BIG, beautiful fruit and cheese platter! The spaghetti squash was especially amazing, and the strong cheeses (Pablo had remembered when I told him during the tasting that I liked strong cheeses) were every bit as good as those I had during my trip to France.
It was all too much. We were frankly overwhelmed, and are still trying to process the experience.
Just let me say a HUGE thank you to Marisa, Carolina (who made sure to come out and introduce herself as well), and Pablo, who made our time at Viña Cobos so amazing and our experience so otherworldly.
There are many ways to structure a trip to a place like Mendoza, which is probably home to more than a thousand wineries. Personally, I'd much prefer to spend real time at a place like Viña Cobos, and have an amazing, memorable experience, than go to 10 or 15 ordinary wineries.
Is Viña Cobos expensive? Without a doubt. We spent more money there than at any other winery during our trip (by far), but it was worth every cent. It was a truly extraordinary experience!

Wow! Just, wow! We loved the wine tasting area and our wine hostess. The wines were absolutely phenomenal, and we were able to taste 2 wines not yet released, a Chardonnay and an Espumante. They were so fresh and much too enjoyable! Of course, the Viña Cobos was the star, but all of the Bramare wines were spectacular too.

Vina Cobos seemed focused on selling us a more expensive wine tasting than the one we had booked (range of price AR150 to AR1200!) and didn’t waste much time to comment on the various wines we tasted. A dedicated PR/wine tasting room was packed with tables and people. We were not impressed!
