Terra Nova National Park is a place where long fingers of the North Atlantic Ocean touch the island boreal forest of Eastern Newfoundland. Rocky headlands provide shelter from the awesome power of the open ocean. The landscape of the park varies from the rugged cliffs and sheltered inlets of the coastal region to the rolling forested hills, bogs and ponds of the inland. Cultural history abounds in the remnants of sawmills and past human cultures.

Fall Foliage in Full Bloom Was Beautiful

We had a beautiful little baby moose running back and forth in front of us on the trail, playfully. We had kids with us who wanted to pet and play with it. We knew momma moose was around, so tried not to encourage this little 4-legged baby, nor our kids in playing with each other. Moose kid and human kids... More

There are plenty of trails here to keep you busy (I've come to that park twice), if you want a good hike or walk, to learn somethings about Terra Nova National Park and also they have a visitor center that you should definitely visit to get expert advice on what parts of the park to tour. I've found a great... More

My two boy (ages 6 and 8) had a fantastic time hiking and exploring the visitor centre at Terra Nova National Park. After driving in the car for a few hours the whole family needed to stretch their legs. We went hiking on the Sandy Pond trail. It was well marked and easily accessible. The flora and fauna of this... More

The park was closed for the season when we were there. I would have thought that you should be able to at least drive through but it seems that between the end of Sept. and Thanksgiving that a lot of things just close. We still managed to drive around the outskirts of the park and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage... More

We went to the park to do some kikes and really enjoyed the experience. The trails are well kept and lots to keep you busy. Only issue is if staying on East side of park (and not camping in the park) you have to drive ~ 30 kms (almost length of park) to get a permit that is required to... More

Always enjoyed TNNP from the mid 60's when I lived there to just a visit now and then to the camp grounds or just a drive through to the wharf or Saltons Brook. Unfortunately its gone quite commercial lately and has lost the great personality it once had, but aside with that it's beautiful and a must visit on your... More

Pros: Malady Head: Provides a moderately-strenuous hike though a very mossy forest with lots of mushrooms. Eventually leads to a scenic view overlooking the bay/cove/fjord. Got to see some Indian Pipe along the edge of the parking lot. Blue Hill Lookout Tower: Provides a scenic view of the valley and has two Adirondack chairs for visitors to sit and admire... More

Terra Nova is a beautiful park and a great place to stop and spend a full day or so on your drive across Newfoundland. We camped in Malady Head campground for two nights. Fairly typical campground. We were able to squeeze in two hikes: Buckley Cove Trail and Malady Head Trail (excellent views). If you want to go for a... More

Pretty drive even when it raining. Not much to see other than nature and road construction. We didn't get off the highway at all.
