Goathland station looks alot better since our last visit. Obviously this was a summer visit rather than in the late Autumn. We were there when a steam train arrived, really helping to set the scene for imagining that this was 'Hogsmeade' from the Harry Potter...More

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway us a sheer delight but I think Goathland is probably the most picturesque statio9n along the route. If you go there be sure to go for a walk around the village and see the sets where Heartbeat was filmed

A pretty and well kept station where the heritage steam railline meets the Esk Valley modern railline. As the main depot for the North York Moors Railway there is plenty to see

Thank you for your review. I think it was actually meant for Grosmont Station rather than Goathland.

There is a board with train times on the wall at the booking office , which lets you know when the trains will be coming through, and a tea room for bacon rolls etc with friendly staff.

A beautiful stop off on a fantastic journey through the North Yorkshire Moors, featured in Heartbeat, and Harry Potter. Stands on its own two feet though as a beautiful gateway to the Moors and Pickering beyond.

Had a quick visit to the station today whilst in the village. Nice station and a step back in time. Unfortunately no tains arrived whilst we were there so obviously did not see any.

Yes, you can sit on the station, coaches park in the village of Goathland (500m) away. And I think you will be ok to just go without booking, but I would email & check that one. Especially if it’s the weekend??

Hi Can you let me know if I can book a short steam train journey from Goathland to Whitby Bay? If so, how much will it cost and can we get a return ticket? It's for a special occasion for my mum who has never been to Whitby bay before or on a steam train so I thought for a fantastic day out, we could spend a short amount of time of steam train to Whitby bay and then spend most of our day at Whitby bay, then at around 5pm get the steam train back from Whitby bay to Goathland train station where we can collect our car and drive home back to Manchester. We want to experience the steam train but not spend the majority of our day on it because the main highlight for mum will be spent at Whitby bay and we only have 1 day to do this which is Sat 2 June mum's birthday. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks Scott

What a lovely idea. Check out the North Yorkshire Moors Railway website for timetable, fares and pre-booking. I think you will be able to get a train from Goathland and return later for about £20 return pp. Be aware that the... More
