We hiked up to Snake Lake from Black Lake, a walk which took around 40 minutes. The lake is much smaller then Black Lake but the hike through the forest is well worth it and properly signposted so it is difficult to not wander off the proper path. We went in June and very few people seemed to do this hike which made it all the more special. Recommended in addition to walking round Black lake.
Tip : walk round Black lake in a clockwise direction and then you can walk up to Snake Lake when you have almost gone completely round the two lakes.

We did a four hour hike from our hotel (Soa) through the forest and visited both Crno Jezero (Black Lake) and Zminje Jezero (Snake Lake). We had pretty damp weather and the hike through the forest was very muddy and slippery at times. This was the only time during our two week trip to Montenegro that I wished I had packed my hiking boots. Our trainers got very dirty and we slipped a few times over the forest terrain. It was a relatively easy hike, but we had the advantage of a mountain guide to lead the way for us. It is worth visiting both lakes because they are quite different from each other. Zminje Jezero is smaller, quieter and totally enclosed within the forest. The water looked very clean, but there is a lot of vegetation growing up to the edge and into the lake, which I would imagine, make getting in and out for a swim pretty tricky.

Zminje Lake is a very nice lake in the middle of the forest and it is very accessible using a trail that takes about 1 hour long one way. You can enjoy nature on the shore of this lake in the middle of the mountain.

The lake is hidden in Durmitor reserve. It is beautiful, quiet and not crowded at all. You can get here by car from Zablijak, just put the name of the lake in your GPS and get as close as you can. Note that the last kilometer is a bit hard to drive and can be done by foot. From the parking spot, go off the rode and follow the sign to the lake. It's a great place for a picnic, there are benches by the lake.

It was very special experience. I discovered that we usualy underscore our children after my young daughter of 3 5 made this path from Crno Jezero with no complains and showing a lot of interest to the forest, mushrooms around, etc. However I am wondering whether this way would loss from its unique character if municipality would equip it a bit more for tourist protection and make more secure. We visited it after whole rainy day and some places on path were with obvious slipping risk. We were lucky not to be stuck there during the rain

Amazing walk through the forest that is 300 years old is already something special. Than, after the lake is popping up like a rare and special gift of nature. I will not recommend it for kids under 5 years but it depend of parents. The stunnig view, untouched nature and respect to such beauty is really all in one inside of each visitor. It is suitable for good swimmers with experience but NOT for average swimmers. The depth of lake is 7m and the approach is not so easy if you want refreshement inside of it. Recommendation to go by mountain bicycle. Not recommend to go off the path as the forest is deep and it is easy to get lost. Noone of guide either someone who is there so to help. But the main path is very good leaded so it is safe if you take it. It is big pity that some people use cars to get to it. The parking place is some1 or 2 kilometers from the lake and it is not far away.

A small glacier lake, surrounded by trees. Reached by a fairly easy walking track with a few climbs from the black lake. There are a few benches for a picknick or so.

We visited on a hike in the Durmitor National Park - beautiful place to stop for lunch. Only one other couple here as not on the tourist stop (black lake / Crno Jezero).
Zminje Jezero (Lake) is just over 3km from the nearest parking area and well marked paths can take you there - though would recommend a map as there are many paths and the turning to the lake along a smaller track could be missed. One of the national park is available from the tourist office in the parking area in the centre of Zabljak.
Loads of wildlife - fish, bees, dragonfly, birds etc. In a peaceful beautiful spot. Brilliant on a nice day.

Zminje jezero (Snake lake) is one of the Durmitor lakes. Very nice and quiet place, very easy to find and come. And there are no snakes around the lake. This name was given by the legend.
