About
The Centre houses the natural history collection of the National Park, a shop selling souvenirs, handicraft items, as well as a room for the screening of films with a capacity of 30 visitors. It is located in the main building of the National Park, and it is a place where you can receive all information related to the tourist offer of the area.

I came with little idea as to what to do in the national park, luckily I met a local who gave me great advice. Both of the following activities use the town of Zabljak as a start point.
1. Half day activity: Black lake.
From Zabljak, walk east out of town following the Main Street. After a mile you'll reach a ranger's hut where you'll be charged €3 park entrance. From there continue one mile until you reach the lake. You can circumnavigate both lakes (1 hour walk). The lakes are stunningly beautiful. Top tip: swim in the second lake away from the day tripping tourists.
2. Full day activity: climb Bobotov Kuk.
This is Montengro's highest mountain (2523m). It's not a troubling hike with some scrambling near the top and points at which assisting hand cables are available.
Take a taxi/grab a lift to the starting point Sedlo (20 min drive/€15 taxi). From there the trail is clearly marked. Follow red/white targets that are continually situated on rocks to guide you to the summit. It's a 3hr ascent/2hr descent. The starting point of Sedlo is a popular stop off/view point so it's easy to grab a lift from there.
You do not need a guide for either hike. Both are rewarding for different reasons and thoroughly worthwhile.

This breathtaking national park was formed by glaciers and is traversed by rivers and underground streams. Along the Tara river canyon, which has the deepest gorges in Europe, the dense pine forests are interspersed with clear lakes and harbour a wide range of endemic flora.

We had planned to hike here but both my husband and I had really bad cold/flu just before arriving in Montenegro so we opted not to hike but just drove through the NP and enjoyed the stunning scenery. We arrived in our own car from Bosnia and drove along the Pivsko Jezero canyon...awesome, then just before the bridge at Pluzine we turned off and climbed up and up round hairpins and through rock tunnels for better and better views of the canyon, then arrived on a stunning plateau with a few little farming villages - sheep and horses roaming the hills. We drove the route past Bobotov Kuk (highest peak in Montenegro), enjoyed a picnic lunch with stunning views of all the big peaks and then down to Pasina voda and back to the "main" road south from Zabljak. Can't recommed this highly enough - yes the road is narrow and windy and a few hairpins but the road surface is good and this was easily among the best 5 drives we've done in Europe. Make sure the weather is good before you go though!

I drove right through Durmitor National Park from one end to the other, from Pluzine to Zabljak on Sep.7. It was the drive of my life. It took the whole day with stops but take my work for it it was worth effort. It is beautiful, pristine landscaping, mountains with amazing panoramas...no words will be enough to describe this natural reservations.
Make sure your tank is full and you will not get hungry soon, there is nothing around. I stopped for a tea in Virak, a small cabin in the mountains and for lunch in Zabljak, the biggest town in the area.
If you are driving through Montenegro from Podgorica North towards Sarajevo this is the route you must take, not the fastest but definitely the most beautiful. Next I will plan a motorcycle tour, there were many riders, roads are pretty good even for a two wheeler. See my pictures.

I don't know why this attraction is for the Visitor Centre. The real attraction is the park itself. After you pass through the entry gates, there is about a 700 meter walk to Black Lake. The views of the Durmitor Mountains beyond the lake are spectacular.
There is a 3.3 kilometer walk around the lake and an option for exending that hike for another 2 kilometers. The walk is fairly level.
During the summer, which I gather is the busy season, there are food stalls, and cafes at lakeside.

Durmitor national park and the black lake is a short walkway from Zabljak. Easy to go by foot.
A lot of people walk around the lake and it looks quite easy way, but I hadn't time to do that.

The nature is amasing and stunning but I am very disapointed to see there that much garbage and so so many car tires whole lenght of the canyon.
What a pity.
Taking into account that the price of the ticket for entry on the river in canyon is so expensive (the most expensive of river in Europe if not in the world), you could organize some sort of eco-cleaning action.
Without those car tires and garbage that place will be a true paradise on Earth.

There was so much hype we read about Durmitor. This is the only national park in the world entrance fee per person to walk around in addition to car parking. At the end of the day, it was nothing spectacular. We had gone to Mont Blanc. Chamonix, Aspen, St Mortiz, Inssbrug, Zermatt and many other places in Eastern and Western Europe, America and Asia. This was a letdown!!! DO NOT waste your time.

I had made sure to put Durmitor National Park on my 11 day Itinerary of Croatia and Montenegro! Beautiful scenery throughout the park with mountains, lakes, and forest. There is a fee to enter the park and for parking.
Planinica was the trail I was looking forward to hiking. I did some research beforehand, and had a hard time finding much information. The trail goes through rich forest and the Alisnica Valley. Once you reach the top, you are left with stunning views. It's around a 7hr roundtrip hike, so start early! We did not make it to the top due to a scare of possibly running into a bear. I had read that it's rare to come across one, but we had seen the tracks earlier and noises. We had started the hike so early, that we were the only people around and among wildlife. It was a bummer, but the hike was still beautiful and we saw almost all of it but the very top views. Overall the hike was well worth it and pretty easy.

Summer days in Durmitor are beautiful: with fresh air, smell of mountain herbs and spectacular views. We drove from Žabljak to Plužine by the narrow road through the mountain, 45 kilometers long. Take your time, stop the car and enjoy in this unique view in blue, grey and green: stunning peaks, fantastic landscapes of sky, stones and green mountain grass.

If you enter the park via the official entrance (road from Zabljak, where also the visitor centre is) it's €3 per person, because it's the fastest way to the beautiful black lake, with restaurant and playgrounds for kids. Entrance is free for kids (6 years or younger).
However, you gan get in for free via all other walking/hiking paths a few km's further.

hi, we are planning on hiking durmitor in a week or so as a part of a greater trip and we are wondering if there is a place where we can put our exrta stuff until we finish hiking? even somthing like a locker could be a good solution
and also were wonering if sleeping within the park is possible via tent or some camping site ?

Hi, we are traveling to Montenegro In the middle of April this year and we are wondering how much snow will there be left in Durmitor National Park - and if you can go hiking for all day, its still little bit cold, isnt it?
