Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gerdarsafn Museum has a very interesting collection of work by sculptor Gerdur Helgadottir, and runs an ambitious program of contemporary exhibitions. It's a quick bus, bike or car ride from the centre of Reykjavik, a staple in the city's museum's spectrum.

The current exhibition by Katrin Elvars, et. al. is inspiring and the fantastic photography of the everyday life of Chinese surroundings reminds me of the Dutch still life paintings. A must see!

Gerðarsafn is a fantastic Museum with a very good exhibition program very close to Reykjavík. They also just opened and excellent lunch restaurant. They are located in the cultural center of Kopavogur next to the Museum of Music and Salurinn concert space. They also often have excellent educational project for children.

Great place with some very interesting works, incuded in citycard. Out of town but the bus stops outside. Ask where the bus stop back is because it's not obvious but only two minutes away. Next to Natural History Museum (free)

This museum is the only museum in Iceland dedicated to a female artist- Gerður Helgadottir- who was an amazing sculptor. She also did some amazing stained glass and iron work. A lot of her artwork is scattered throughout Iceland. I had a unique opportunity to volunteer for them for three weeks this summer and I had a blast! You can just walk in and look at her art but there are also guided tours available in both English and Icelandic. Every Wednesday they have a culture event, and there are lots of family art workshops and activities too! Great place to take the whole family.

This museum houses the works of Gerdur Helgadottir, after whom it is named. The exhibition follows the development through her career in stone, clay, bronze and glass. The final section covers her last pieces of public art, some of which is visible in Reykjavik today (such as the Customs house). A really good museum, at the time of visiting I was the only visitor. The staff were very welcoming and helpful although, unlike the nearby Natural History Museum, all of the information boards were in English as well as Icelandic. Worth a visit to the only museum in Iceland dedicated and named after a female artist.

Gerður Helgadóttir was in the lead of women in the world, with many of her works as fun and interesting. There are also some of the works by world famous Icelandic artists.

This was a easy walk from our B&B, there was an admission fee and it was a nice smaller art museum. We enjoyed it as part of our walk around the business area, there is a natural history Museum across from it that is free and worth a look as well.
