Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Do not expect a huge and decent museum. But taking into account their limitations, it is faur enough. Please, talk with ex-guerrilleros that volunteer there to know more about the conflict and their lifes. This is the main plus of this museum

I was recently at the museum of Revolution in Perquin (Morazan) and after I heard all the true stories of the people who lived these events, and I would say, it´s really sad what people can do to people when they are trained to do harm, it really gets me thinking how rough life can be. I taught that every single detailed this guy said must be in their minds like it was yesterday. This is a Must do visit if you come to El Salvador, and if you want to know about our history, the civil war!

The museum is a wonderful compilation of photos and artifacts from the Civil War in El Salvador (officially 1980-1992). Our guide was a former combatant who shared stories of the revolution. There is no mistaking the part the US had in the deaths of thousands of civilians during the war. It's hard to believe how ignorant of this we in the US were at the time it was happening. The museum grounds contain an actual encampment, and across the street is a park that includes the mountain with the helipad. You can hike up to the top of the mountain, and the views are spectacular. The museum and grounds are well worth the trip and time!

The museum itself is not a fantastic place, is just an old house with many artifacts of the civil war, but the history is incredible specially because the guide is a veteran of the revolution.
IIf you are already in Perkin it worth a visit and also you can do a hikewalk to the Perkin viewpoint which is a beautiful and interesting place.

Perquin was hit hard during the war and has a proud histroy of resistance. The museum is rustic, but worthwhile. You need to speak Spanish to really appreciate it, so if you don't find a translator. The musuem is next to a small hike with and amazing view into Honduras. Both are excellent for the price.

Don't go with Smithsonian standards in mind but rather realizing this is history that is so fresh it will make you wonder what else is happening around the world that you aren't really paying attention to in the comforts of your home/Country. It is absolutely worth the visit but unless you can read and speak fluent Spanish I would highly recommend you enlist a guide. In fact unless you yourself are a vetern of the civil war a guide will provide insight into the area and the times that you simply can not get in any book. Not only do I recommend using a guide throughout the whole of the Perquin area, I highly recommend it be Rafael Rivas. His phone # is 503 7901 2840 We (my husband and I) stayed at Perkin Lenka and they are the ones who first connected us with him. I speak limited Spanish and was told that the guide would not speak English (or I translated the response incorrectly!) but much to our surprise and benefit he speaks wonderful, albeit not perfect, English. Not only did we get a guide who is a 12 year veteran of the civil war but we got a Spanish teacher and now a man to call friend as well. What a blessing! We enlisted him for all three days we stayed in Perquin. I'm certain there are other wonderful guides in the area and not to take anything away from their performance but merely to express that Rafael is among the most sincere, honest and fun guides you will spend time with. Tell him Michelle with the blue eyes from the United States recommended him!

very basic and all in spanish (we had a guide with us so he could interpret) -- gives you a good overview of the horrors of the Salvadorean wars.

Although its tucked away in the mountains of Morazan and may not look like much from the outside, this museum is definitely worth going through if you want to hear about the civil war from the people who experienced it. The rooms were covered with pictures and artifacts from the war, and outside they have pieces of Monterrosa's helicopter and two armored cars given to the guerrillas by the French and Mexican governments. As much as I learned from the exhibits, i learned even more from our guide. I got to hear his story and the story of many of the guerrillas including that of the man called "the Chilean" who is buried on the grounds.

The small museum in Perquin has guides who will tell you of the Civil War. Our guide was a survivor of that war and his story was very interesting.

Our guide at the museum was so helpful and nice. He gave us so much information about what happened in that part of the country during the civil war. My family is originally from El Salvador and it was an incredible experience to be able to see all of the items in the museum and to hear all the stories of the people who lived through the war. This museum is like no other. You walk along a path that takes you through beautiful trees and flowers, across wood/rope bridges, down into dirt bunker tunnels, and even a zip line! We even got to pick oranges out of the trees that were naturally growing there and we ate them while we walked along the path looking at all of the exhibits. What's most amazing is that all of the items were found/dug up and saved by the founder of the museum. Just next door there is a stable where you can take guided tours on horseback us the ridge for amazing photos. This inspirational and educational experience is not to be missed!
