おたあさんは韓国人のキリシタンの女性だそうです。
ジュリア祭なるものが毎年あるようで、ポスターを見てなんでジュリア？と思っていましたが、この方にゆかりのあるお祭りだと言うことがわかり、知らなかった歴史の勉強になりました。

海から自転車で挑戦しましたが、
神津島の地形が急勾配のため、
途中にある学校あたりに自転車を
とめて徒歩で向かいました。
坂が厳しすぎてもう諦めようと
思っていたところ、
地元のおじさんが
トラックの荷台に乗せて連れていって
くれて助かりました。
写真でみるより遥かに大きな
十字架と神津島を見渡せる高台
ということもあり
とても神々しく感じました。
神津島では絶対に自転車が
盗まれない、、、と
レンタサイクルの人が言ってましたが、
本当に鍵をつけたまま置いておいても
なくなりません。
帰り道にきちんと置いてありました。
記念碑を見に来る方は
絶対に車をおすすめします。

とにかく港からの景色でとっても目につく大きな十字架が気になって、行ってみました。40分くらい歩きました。歩道のない道が多いので、車には気を付けてください。案外島の交通量は多いです。ありま展望台と合わせて、是非お勧めです。

ちょっと楽しみにして行ったのですが、ただとっても大きな十字架があるって感じです。十字架が大きすぎるので写真に収めるのも難しい感じでした。時間あったら、行ってみる。というのがいいかもしれません。

戦国時代～江戸時代の政策に影響を受けて翻弄された人生をすごした女性の記念碑。
この島と、海と、海の向こうの故郷まで見渡せるこの場所に記念碑をたてた島の人たちの思いやりがすてきです。

自転車を借りていたので、島を散策している途中で立ち寄りました。
前の方も書いていましたが、とにかく坂が半端ないです…
とても自転車をこぐことはできず、ひたすら押して目指します。
心が折れそうになりましたが、頑張って上がると開けた景色が広がります！
白い十字架が立っていました。
広い海と白い十字架がなんか不思議な感じだな〜と思いながらしばらくぼーっとしていました。
のんびり考えごとをしたりするのもいいかもしれません。
ですが自転車はやめたほうがいいと思います！
この場所だけに限らず、神津島は全体的に坂が多いのでよほど体力に自信がある方でないと疲れ果てて観光どころではなくなるかもしれません。
