The Nantua Lake is a natural one of glacial origin. It’s a huge mass of water covering more than 140 hectares though the original glacier area was much larger than the lake nowadays. Its depth is also considerable. It’s surrounded by mountains with limestone cliffs,...More

The lake is quite large but still it is somehow "hidden" among village houses and mountains. The best way to approach is from the village called Port (however, there is no port there). There are some public beaches, the best one is close to the...More

The lake shimmered turquoise, then emerald and sometimes grey as the Sun hid behind some clouds. Very picturesque and the perimeter of the lake is manicured with concrete pavements and benches; very inviting to sit and watch the hungry ducks and squawking coots with the...More

After visiting a nearby town we'd stumbled across Lac Nantua - a perfect day out Would recommend taking a picnic and making a day of it Gets deep quite quickly but this is good for throwing yourself into the water off the pontoon

Was disappointed by the run down area and nothing to do except walk around the lake. Would not recommend this as more than a one night stop as we did, but we would not return again even for that

Visited here in May, we had mixed weather, one day hot, cool the next. Mountain walks are lovely if you like walking. If we'd stayed a little longer it would have been lovely to swim and sail on the lake. The town is a little...More

We camped overnight at Natua. I will always remember its poignant War Memorial, fittingly situated beside its stunning lake. The memorial remembers and honours those Nantua residents who were torn from their homes and deported to German concentration camps. Few returned. A more fitting place...More
