This was local to where we stayed in Ermenonville and decided to have a look. The building is derelict but there is plenty of it being enjoyed by many nesting swifts. It must have been impressive when complete. The grounds are extensive but marred by...More

The abbey at Chaalis, which flourished in the 13th and 14th centuries, subsequently fell into disrepair during the 16th century and later; rather like many English abbeys following Henry 8's dissolution of the monasteries, leaving the ruins that are visible today. In addition to the...More

Pretty grounds and ruins of the abbaye, but the highlight is the chapel. Don't miss the quirky gargoyles (snail, dinosaur, etc.), and especially the restored inside frescoes from Primaticcio, the 16th-century italian painter primarily famous for his work at the Chateau of Fontainebleau.

This restored Abbey houses a fantastic collection of works of art mostly bought by Nélie Jacquemart-André's before and during the time she lived here in the early 1900's where she set about collecting from her trips around the globe. It's well worth spending some time...More

Facing the amusement park « La mer de Sable » lie the ruins of Chaalis Abbey. The place is really quiet, within a big park, including a farm, museum (which we did not visit), chapel, rose garden. Not much remaining of the Abbey but the...More
