About
The origins of the Thermal Spa Baths go back to the eighteenth century, when the amazing healing powers of the sulphurous water and the natural springs which surrounded this small settlement in Carratraca gained an almost legendary reputation, with them being regarded as "miracle" waters. The Spa at Carratraca was built by the Earl of Teba, father of the Empress of France, Eugenia de Montijo (wife of Napoleon III) and of the Duchess of Alba. During the nineteenth century, it became one of the most famous spas in Europe and its waters won awards on two occasions, both in Paris in 1878 and in Madrid in 1873, claiming the gold medal award for the best medicinal-mineral water. Our team of medical specialists and healthcare professionals have studied the sulphur, calcium and magnesium properties of the water, creating Total Immersion Programmes so the client can gain maximum. benefit from its unique characteristics.

An oasis in Costa del Sol where you are completely spoiled by the spa facilities. There’s a Greek sauna, a Finnish sauna, a Hammam steam room and several other steam rooms with different aromas and temperatures (Bali steam bath with eucalyptus was my favourite but there was also an impressive India steam bath with Lavender!), Laconium, Salt bath, basically a playground for spa enthusiasts or any guests really seeking true relaxation. The interior decor is stunning, as if you travelled back in time to Ancient Rome. The resort itself is stunning as well, a Spanish/Tuscan palace with a large field of green by the Mediterranean Sea and a team who couldn’t be more ready to assist you. The perfect spa retreat. Absolutely recommend.

The hotel is delightful, a real 'olde worlde grandeur' with staff to match. The spa is actually underneath the hotel & accessible via a rather swish system of lit tunnels. Once there, the girls are charming and you can book everything from sauna, steam rooms, treatments and thermal baths, to the thermal pools etc.
The thermal pools consist of a series of Roman baths ranging from hot/tepid, to cold & freezing - it takes guts to tackle the colder ones!
The hotel also boasts a lovely rooftop plunge pool, with sunbeds to relax on & a gymnasium, as well as lift access and very comfortable bedrooms with superb air con and (TV/bathroom/fridge) facilities. The restaurant offers a limited menu, but very well prepared & beautifully cooked food-we thoroughly enjoyed it. A set meal for €40 is well worth a visit! The wine is delightful & the staff could not be faulted: They are all polite, respectful and cannot do enough for you.
It is a jewel of the province, which we will be visiting again as we had such a super experience - Oh, one last thing, the parking is both private and secure, just a few metres down the road-it's safe and means you can rest assured your car is safe.
Visit the hotel and enjoy every minute - we will certainly do so!

We needed some time off, and booked villa padierna, expecting a relaxed week in the sun. The hotel was beautiful, and staff made us feel very welcome, without being obtrusive. The spa looked fantastic, when we got used to the phosphor smell that is the origins for the spa. Indeed healthy food, and though not for everyday very nice and tastefully. Locally we dare you to go for the alternatives, it was worth it! Fonde Trillo, mama Pepe were good nights out with great local food for less. A special mention must go out to staff, Miguel and his colleagues helped make this week a more then relaxing one! The nearby lakes were wonderful to visit as well!

The Villa Padierna Thermas Hotel and Spa is without doubt the most restorative, relaxing and rejuvenating place we have ever had the joy of experiencing. From the moment we arrived we could feel it's magic working on us and by the time our 5 day stay had to end we felt more than ready to face the world again.
Firstly, the hotel had a wonderfully relaxing vibe, the views to the mountains from our room were breathtaking and yet the ancient and welcoming village of Carratraca was right on the doorstep. The menu was a breath of fresh air, simple to choose from but carefully designed to be nutritious, detoxing and slimming. The food was served when you wanted it with breakfast, lunch and dinner beautifully attended to by the warm and friendly staff.
Secondly, the Spa and Roman baths had a wonderful energetic quality and the staff were like Angels. They were especially kind to us and looked after us so well we were sad to leave. All of the treatments were fabulous but the sulphurous water based treatments really did make us feel fantastic after just a few days.
We can't wait to return! To all of the staff I say thank you so much and see you again soon.

Villa Padierna Thermas is one of the two luxury hotels of the firm, featuring an exclusive balneary of natural mineral waters that heals your body and mind.
My wife and I were raised in the region and never heard of this hidden paradise in small village Carratraca before, which tells how reach is Costa del Sol when it comes to leisure and relax, not only offshore but also inland.
We spent the morning enjoying the daily thermal spring circuit; a two hours programme which included turkish bath, hydromassage tub, bi-thermal circular shower and the roman thermal pools kept at different temperatures.
The facilities are just pure luxury and exclusivity, and we were guided by well trained and extremely friendly staff.
The package included a set menu consisting of a starter, a main dish and a desert. I had the salmon carpaccio, the beef tenderloin with sauteed mushroom and a rice pudding, all courses were ten out of ten.
I can't stop recommending this place, at least once a year!
