Gardens OK but the restaurant is not.

The gardens are not too bad - not well-manicured but extensive & quite varied. But my wife & I were there for some lunch. Outside tables not available as all were reserved except that when we left an hour & a half later they were still unclaimed, so we could have used them if permitted. We sat inside in the dingy dining area. All tables were covered in dirty dishes when we arrived & we cleared one. Service was extremely slow - we waited about 35 minutes for a waitress to attend us. By then we had given up on lunch & chose scones with jam & cream & some coffee & hot chocolate. Another half-hour or so & they arrived. The scones where a little strange - almost damper-like, plus they were very hard on the outside. They were nice inside though. My wifes coffee was good but my hot chocolate was not. Really just a waste of time & we would never go again.

Very pleasant visit
Mar. 2021
The garden, while not very large, had a lovely display when we visited over the March long weekend. There is a large carpark if the first carpark is full. There are also seeds and plants that can be purchased. Very pleasant if you are in the Blackwood area.

What a spectacular place for a weekend retreat! With first class accommodation and amenities, blissful surroundings, I felt I was living the luxury. A real bush experience for anyone visiting but without the roughness of the outback. The tents were amazing, cosy and fly-proof. We ordered breakfast in the morning and received muesli, yogurt, strawberries, grapes and banana bread. There were 2 bottles of milk, one bottle of orange juice and cold water. A great range of tea too and Lindt Chocolate on arrival. There is also a kettle and lamps on the bedside table. The bed was really comfy as were the armchairs. At night, we heard beautiful, calming sounds of nature such as kookaburras, frogs and other birds. We also woke up to the same sounds in the morning. The amenities were spotless and had everything you need. No need to bring towels, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The garden was lovely to walk around, especially after closing time. Highly recommended for a peaceful and relaxing weekend away.

In the Bush

Called in Sunday very busy both car parks full. Lovely sunny day many people out for a drive and lunch in the cafe. Covid 19 rules apply but we did not sit down. We found our wanted plants the garden area is lovely. The road in is narrow bitumen all the way do not take a large mobile home or a caravan.

The garden of good earth
Mar. 2020
We spent a wonderful few hours at the garden on a beautiful day in early March. Met friends for lunch in the cafe, then walked off our meal by wandering through the many sections of the gardens before spending time (and a few $) in the Diggers Club shop. The cafe's menu is not that extensive and service not the friendliest, but we didn't let that stop us having a very pleasant meal. I went for the 'Garden Vegetable Platter', a colorful assemblage of roasted veggies, all fresh from the on-site gardens. It was delicious, although I thought the plate was tad on the small side. The gardens are full of variety and colour and a delight to walk through; we backtracked more than once but that didn't trouble us in the least; in fact, gave us a chance to catch things we missed first time around. Last stop was the shop, brimming with seedlings, packets of heirloom seeds and other garden-related goodies (including some very flash looking insect hotels). Costs $10/person to visit the gardens.

Not as good as we expected!
Feb. 2020 • Couples
We were really looking forward to a visit to The Garden of St Erth, to both look through the gardens and shop, as well as dining in their cafe. The cafe ...... there were no available tables outside in the courtyard so we chose a table indoors overlooking the nursery. The decor is tired, the windows ridden with cobwebs, wasps buzz at the windows in search of an escape route ...... not what we expected. The menu is limited but has something for everyone including children. Locals beers are on offer, wine too but only two available by the glass. Service leaves a lot to be desired in various ways, our meals were incorrectly delivered, we then waited while the correct dishes were prepared, delivery of cutlery clumsy, clearing of tables nonexistent, no follow up service for ordering dessert and coffee. After lunch we visited the gift shop, nursery and gardens at $10 per adult. Whilst the gardens are pleasant, the cost is probably a little steep for what you actually see. Although we had a nice time I certainly wouldn’t rush back and wouldn’t be inclined to rave to others about this venue and garden.

Not as Expected
Nov. 2019 • Friends
Having read all about this garden and as it is associated with the famous Diggers Garden group I included St Erth on our Ladies week away to Daylesford. We allowed a whole morning and expected to stay for the garden grown lunch.
We dutifully paid the $10 entrance fee each and headed off. We’d basically walked around within 45 mins noticing the lovely layout and some unusual plants and then headed for the cafe. We had coffee and cake / scones which were nice enough but the experience was spoilt by the surly man serving. I felt we were an inconvenience and when I enquired about lunch was told “ no lunch on Thursday “. No where did I see any mention of that on website and had especially chosen Thursday as cafe was open.
All in all the five of us thought that $10 was over charging at this time of year. The rose garden in particular had several lovely arbours of climbers which we all in bud but the rest of the rose garden contained only a few roses and plenty of knee high weeds.
Diggers members have free entry but for non members it might be better to wander the streets of the local towns to see some really spectacular gardens.
Such a disappointing visit but the garden shop had some interesting items. Plenty of plants for sale if you live locally.

Lovely to wander through on a sunny day

We were introduced to this charming place by Diggers Club members. The cottage is chock full of anything and everything gardening, lots of quirky stuff.
Top quality coffee in the cosy cafe, looking out on the gardens. Highly recommended.

What a spectacular place for a weekend retreat. First class accomodation and amenities, blissful surroundings, who could ask for more. A real bush experience for anyone visiting but without the roughness of the outback. Highly recommended and we will be back for sure. Diggers Club gardens are a bonus to visit during your stay.
