A walk around the American air museum

A very impressive display of iconic aircraft. Something for anyone who likes aircraft. The sheer size of some of the exhibits is quite breath-taking.

Although this is called the "American Air Museum", it's actually part of the much bigger "British Imperial War Museum" It has a "live" runway and runs air displays throughout the year, all of which are very popular. During the second world war, this place was known as RAF Duxford and was home to the US Eighth Air Force's 78th Fighter... More

Set within Duxford Imperial War Museum this is a well designed and interesting exhibit. It is only let down by very pricy food and drink on offer

I absolutely love this place but the refurbishment has made it less easy to see everything. There are so many aircraft in here that they now obscure each other. Even worse are the new display boards. They're very arty and well done but why so huge?! At over 2m high they make it even harder to see the aircraft let... More

A good collection of WW2 and Cold War American aircraft which are very well presented. The only downside is that because of the compactness of the museum meaningful photography, even with wide angle lens, is very difficult.

Truly super hall within the Duxford imperial war muesum. So many iconic American planes in one place slight shame the are so tightly fitted in together, but due to the scale of the B52 I guess there was not a lot of chose. Never the less what a place. Amazing!

Memorial to American aviation. When you see the panels depicting the losses it is very graphic. My favourite , top five anyway, the Blackbird. Is awesome all other aircraft types fill the unique hall. Could be larger.!

An interesting experience which made us marvel at the size of some of these aircraft. The wing spans were immense & carried engines & fuel tanks which must have been a huge weight. There are displays of uniforms worn by staff manning the planes & operations at different times during the last world war & after. There is a cafe... More

This is an excellent day out that will appeal to young and old alike. You need at least 4 hours to do it justice and even then you will be busy as there are 8 separate attractions or themes to see. Probably you will have to choose priorities before you start. The History of Flight, American Air Museum and Battle... More
